Sorry if this topic has been made before. I was wondering which system you're picking up Dead Space for. Which is gonna be better the PC version or PS3?f-a-d-3
I don't own a PS3 or 360 so PC for me. I would pick it up for PC even if I did own a PS3 r 360 because I prefer the mouse and keyboard for these types of games.
Definitely the PS3!! Higher resolutionz and two player co-operative split screen for intense mult-eye-player action!!
And unlockable achievements such as Concept Art!! Love me concept art!!

If you check gamestop the PS3 and 360 version come out on the 14th and you have to wait until the 20th for the PC version unless something has changed. I am stuck as well. The game is made for consoles so it may feel like a port on the PC. I am going to wait on reviews before I decide anything.
In my opinion, I prefer to play survival horror and the like, on a tv, with a controller, the mouse and keyboard don't do it for me with those games. But, it's really whatever floats yer boat.Brother_Tevis
Well, its a TPS.. You wouldn't play L4D(being called "survival horror") with a gamepad.. well maybe you would... Most wouldn't, lol. But to each his own... They might screw up Kb/m controls too, I watched one vid I didn't think it looked all that impressive, but we'll see.
Asking this on a PC forum doesn't exactly help. A strong bias you know?mo0ksi
yeah, keep this kind of thread to console forums, you'll get bias-free discussions.
for PC gamers, it's the question of getting it or not, rather than that of getting on which platform.
if the game's control turns out to be as terrible as that of Alone in the Dark 5, I won't be getting this game.
......but if u buy a gamepad, u have nothing 2 fear!IMaBIOHAZARD
there's nothing to fear, I don't gamepad while gaming period.
yea, third person action/horror games with a mouse and keyboard turn out be pretty bad when it comes to controls......and the bias is certainly here......but if u buy a gamepad, u have nothing 2 fear!IMaBIOHAZARD
KB/m works just fine with TPS. Its not really any different than a FPS...

yeah, it's whether the dev. actually *attempt* to make a good port or a good multi-platormer. Besides being *horror* themed, TP is TP, Max Payne is TP and it's PC native, and Tomb Raider games are finely tuned with K+M.
Resident Evil 4 and Alone in the Dark 5 are prime examples of poor and lazy ports.
If so, I'm picking this up for the 360. I'm not going to be punished as a consumer.EXLINK
If your being forced into the xbox 360 version, you still are being "punished".
let's see, crappy gamepad controls or superior keyboard + mouse controls? that's a toughie...JnWycliffe
seeing as Dead Space has RE4 type controls and re4 sucked on PC... I fail to see how PC keyboard and mouse will be superior here.

but once it did how were the controls? oh still crappy because a mouse isn't needed when the view is over the shoulder and the range of motion is very limited.

well, i can agree with keyboard & mouse control not being NECESSARY for re4, but i still don't understand how keyboard & mouse is WORSE than using a gamepad (or how keyboard & mouse controls for re4 sucked (which was a mod and not done by the developers of the game, btw)). whether it's an over the shoulder view or a first person view or a third person view, if the view follows the movement of the mouse in a properly done control scheme, i'd imagine the keyboard & mouse control is still superior to the gamepad's. whether it's needed or not is not the point. the point is that a better control scheme is available on the pc.
besides, if you think a gamepad works better for this game, then USE A GAMEPAD WITH THE PC VERSION! it's that simple.

I think the only way it is worse is that analog controls on a gamepad for walking/running is better than WASD and a toggle button.
the over the should camera + limited view and movement make the mouse and analog stick for aiming just about the same.
If the TC was talking about far Cry 2 I'd agree with your first post. And yes you can use a gamepad for the Pc version but that should have been your first post instead of mentioning a control scheme that offers no advantages in this situation yet still calling it superior.

it is superior. you can aim wherever you want faster than you would be able to with a gamepad if the mouse-look is properly implemented. how does that not make it superior? if the tc were talking about re4 and its mouse-look mod or if you didn't suggest that keyboard & mouse control is crappy in these types of games (based on your experience with one game that didn't even have mouse-look to begin with) or if you were even saying that the crappier gamepad control makes the game more tense and the horror element more concrete or if you were saying that this particular game has crappy keyboard & mouse support (because the devs didn't do it properly), i'd agree with you. but this is dead space and it comes with keyboard & mouse control (and thus far, there's no indication that the keyboard & mouse control is poorly done) and you were saying that re4's keyboard & mouse control sucked and thus this game's keyboard & mouse control will suck as well. any control scheme in which you can both aim faster AND more accurately is superior to one in which you can't.

Have you played RE4 at all? When the camera is over the shoulder, your enemy is a large target directly in front of you and there's very little movement possible this, takes away all the advantages of a mouse. It's pretty much the same reason why cover systems in Gears of War and R6 Vegas were frowned upon by PC gamers because it renders all benefits of a mouse useless (quick turns, the ability to quickly aim from one corner of the screen to the opposite side in milliseconds) so there goes your improper mouse implementation argument out of the window. It's not that the controls don't work it's that the controls were created to offer no benefit for a mouse and keyboard seeing as these games were developed with the consoles in mind.
Add the fact that Dead Space is also about cutting body parts off of creatures not just simply shooting them, you also lose the argument when you say accuracy is needed. I can just as easily draw a line through an object with an analogue stick as I can with a mouse.
So what's left is WASD movement against analog sticks and analog sticks are more precise.
so with aiming, accuracy on mouse and gamepad just the same and movement better on gamepad... how is the keyboard and mouse superior again?

i don't know about re4, but the keyboard & mouse controls of both war and vegas work better. so there goes your war and vegas argument.

even if they were developed with consoles in mind, it doesn't mean a good port with well translated keyboard & mouse controls won't be superior to the gamepad controls.

it also has guns. just because one part of the game is equal in terms of control doesn't make it so overall.

faster and more precise aim.

have you played Max Payne? regardless of the theme, third person is third person, whatever done in Max Payne can be done with RE4. why wasn't it? Canpcom was too lazy to make it PC friendly port. the later DMC 4 was much more respectable port; a beat em' up game actually has better K/M control than that of a TP action-shooter, what a joke port RE 4 is.

Sorry but it's not regarless of theme. Max Payne features fast and fluid movement with free aim. RE4 is far slower and more restrictive when it comes to aiming.
saying these games are the same is like saying Metroid Prime 3 and Half Life 2 are the same because they're first person shooters.

so, the no free aim/clumsy movement is deliberate. way to go making a game: making control difficult/clumsy rather than putting effort on enemy AI.
anyway, they are different games, my point was only about the control: a PC friendly control is certainly possible for any third person game REGARDLESS of theme when the dev. actually tried to do that.
if the *making control clumsy* is the way to make horror themed/ survival game, then I'll pass them altogether.

Is that why a lot PC gamers hate R6's and Gow's cover schemes?
The only time aiming is better is when you're running around and free aiming, when you're forced to take cover it's restricting your movement and aiming and PC gamers hate this. There's no benefit of having mouse controls. You can't turn around fast, it puts you in a stationary spot and you're stuck aiming directly in front of you. I've played both versions and I can safely say with a level head because I DON'T favor one system over another, that there is very little difference if any. Sniping far targets is better on PC with a limited aiming but we're talking about Dead Space here and I doubt there's a sniper rifle.
Then I don't think you looked at the guns for Dead Space. We have a laser cutter, a blade you swing around, a flame thrower, a shotgun type beam weapon and a plasma rifle whose secondary fire is a 360 degree blast and a pistol
We all know precision is key with cutting beams, shotguns, flamethrowers and chainsaw devices. Oh wait, it's not.
Throw in the fact that all previews of the game state that your character is an engineer and not a soldier, seeing as the game is a survival horror and not and run and gun shooter. I fail to see what would leave you to believe that you'll be aiming at things quickly. Purposely making a character slow with limited military skill is an important part of survival horror games. How terrifying would it be if you just ran around ripping enemies apart at Painkiller like speed?
So again I fail to see how keyboard and mouse is going to offer superior controls when you don't need precision aim for 5 of the 7 weapons, your character isn't going to be able to use the speed of a mouse and the aiming scheme narrows down the range of firing to an amount that's perfect manageable with a controller.
In my opinion, I prefer to play survival horror and the like, on a tv, with a controller, the mouse and keyboard don't do it for me with those games. But, it's really whatever floats yer boat.Brother_Tevis
ifind it's better with hoorror on a pc as you're closer to the screen

Not so much since they are essentially the same thing. I would rather have a copy that I could play forever instead of paying for something and then having it become essentially "garbage" after a few installations.
