I'm on steam and I see there's a deal going on for Dead Space 1 & 2 both for $9.99, and I think that's a great deal! Before I buy it what are your opinions about this series?

First one is brilliant, hard sci-fi. The true heir of System Shock 2.

Second one is a gigantic turd. It tries to be Uncharted 2 in space except that there's nothing good about it. Any by nothing I really mean *nothing*. Not a single redeeming quality to be found in that sh*t sandwich.

First one is terrible, boring, underwhelming, flawed, the 2nd one is a fantastic experience, one of the better games from 2011.

I loved em' both tho. The first is better imo. The atmosphere was much more scarier and at times made ask myself "do I really need to go down this way?" Almost wanted to just give it up at one point lol.

I loved the first one. It was more of a survival horror game that kept you on the edge of your seat. I thought the story was intriguing, but many people don't like the silent protagonist. Now, I only played the demo of the second game, but from what I played it felt much more like an action game. It didn't feel nearly as spooky because there was constantly things coming at you whereas in DS1, you could go 5-10 minutes without a single fight, but the eerie creaks and noises within the game made you keep expecting something was gonna come out.

If you're a lefty and like to use the numpad for your controller, don't bother. You can't remap the keys to it which makes it pretty much unplayable as far as I'm concerned.

Both are damn awesome games. Atmospheric, full of exploration, and very decently lengthed. Dead Space is what Resident Evil 5 should have been... in SPACE.

The second isn't as scary, but its just as fun and long, and the first wasn't too scary anyways. Tense, fun, gory, but not a terrifying psychological experience like Silent Hill (though twoards the end it gets pretty trippy and scary).

Definitely check them both out.

I didn't play either one to much length, but for what it's worth I played and enjoyed the 2nd game a lot more, and at the very least it's worth the $5.00. They also work well with the 360 controller (like most multiplats).

1st one is one of the best games I have played this gen. I started the second one, but I was put off by it. $10 is a steal, so why not?white_sox

I have said this all over this forum, and it is so true. Dead Space is the best game of this generation. DS2 is pretty dang good as well, there are some really genuinely shocking experiences.

Either way if you can get them for that cheap, PLEASE do it!

I loved them both. The second one is better because it nails the controls, movement, animations in a much smoother way. It's more polished. Isaac Clarke was definitely portrayed better because he finally has a voice. Environments were a lot more interesting and better designed, and same could be said about the necromorphs. Dead Space 2 nailed it.

Both are good games. The first one was tense, creepy, disturbing and at times damn right scary. The second one you kinda know what you walk into but even here it's tense, creepy, disturbing and scary at times. Even more so at one part if you've played the first Dead Space game beforehand. And for 9-10$ it's a bargain.

Yes they're good games, the only problem I have with them is that they're a bit simple to play. Just straight up corridor/third person shooter a lot like RE4.

I would call them "tense TPS games" They are not really horror considering that how the player is far FAR worse then any of those creatures he meets (talk about a walking armory).

They ARE both very good games tho. The 2nd tryies a bit too much to replicate the first one. But they are really both good games. The first the slower, more tense one, and the second the more action oriented one.

Id call ita good buy ^^

Too bad he uses it to say stuff like "HOLY ****!!!" and WHOA.

Dude, shut up. I'm supposed to say HOLY ****, not you. I was so angry, I had a totally different idea of who and how he is, and then he's like Nathan Drake in space, cracking jokes while stomping dead babies... **** you Isaac.

Your opinion on the games will mirror your opinion of those 2 movies.

I got dead space 2 today and tried it, the game is fun, but i didn't find in very scary. The only part so far where I was genuinely startled was when the fire extinguisher system unexpectedly started.

LOL. Now I'm going to think of Nathan Drake when I play Dead Space 3! Thanks Baranga! :P I seriously wouldn't have minded if they kept him as a silent protagonist. I prefer that anyways. So I think you're right.

well there's no doubt about the first at that price, go get it! the satisfying shooting and great atmosphere lift it well above average. the second looks worth it too but i'm waiting for a further price drop personally.

Sweetbackhair

I have beaten Dead Space and gotten to Chapter 5 of Dead Space 2 and I think they are great games. They are not scary but they have a good story and the combat is satisfying. Dead Space 2 had clunky controls but Dead Space 2 really solved that issue. Sadly Dead Space 2 is givng me a black screen and not letting me play.

They were both very good quality action horror games. I thought the story was more intriguing in the first game with some really cool boss fights. The second game had some great moments but lacked any real boss fights and I was let down by the sudden end. Regardless, they were both fun and enjoyable and definately worth the $9.99 price point. There are very few games that satisfy this genre anymore.

I tried playing the first one, but the wonky PC controls put me off. As for the second game... it's not a bad way to burn off 15 hours of your life, but I didn't find it particularly special. The dismemberment is awesome, though.

Both are very good games. The first one is stronger as a lonely survival horror whilst the second adds a little more colour, variety, epic feeling and action.

I didn't mind this, added that little extra struggle to aim fast contributing towards that survival horror element - kind of like Penumbra with its awkward combat (not that you'd ever want to go in combat in that game).

Terrible is an exaggeration, but it was far from polished. Dead Space 2 controls, animation, character movement, was a lot more seamless. They tweaked the controls to the point where it played noticeably better than the first in almost every way.

I like the first one way more, it was scarier, the second one was more of an action horror game, still fun nonetheless. I only wish I could've taken out those guards in the end by myself.

First is good; terrible plot, terrible monster closet attempts at scares, but some great aesthetics, action-horror bam bam gameplay. Ooga booga the aliens are coming out of the vents; it's Doom 3 stuff. The setting is damn cool though. The Second is a ton better for most of the part. Actually tells a compelling tale, and turns what worked in the first up to 11; it's a lot more honest with itself, this is a game with far more creative enemies, ways to die, and far better action-horror focus. It's action-horror-spacepulp done extremely well for a video game, and I'd say it outdoes the Uncharted games in the 'cinematic rails game' department. Dead Space is a series that wanted to walk in the boots of Resident Evil 4, while wearing Doom 3 pants and a 'remember System Shock 2' hat', it only took until the second for the developers to realise that they could streak without shame.
