Get it dude, it's one of the best sci-fi shooters I've ever playes, simply amazing! Kinda reminds me a bit of BioShock :D
YES, YES and YES. Seriously get it. For that price, it's a steal. It's really an awesome game.NoctisCaelum52I agree. I bought it when it came out for about forty or fifty dollars at Best Buy, and it was tons of fun. Great atmosphere, creepy and scary, and challenging. Get it, son. Then come back in here and tell us you agree with how fun of a game it is!
It felt like a modernized third-person perspective DOOM 3. To the OP - if you're a dan of DOOM 3 (I am!), then you will like this game. The similarities are obvious :-)Get it dude, it's one of the best sci-fi shooters I've ever playes, simply amazing! Kinda reminds me a bit of BioShock :D

It's a fantastic game, but that comes at a cost. The controls made the game unplayable for me. Nevertheless, users have reported the game plays well with a x360 controller.contemplating getting this, what's been your experience with it and worth it at this price?

aargh, they are that bad with mouse and keyboard?
The default isn't great, but you may adjust it to your preference (specifically, the mouse sensitivity). The controls don't feel like your typical FPS or TPS and does take some time getting used to. Overall, I like the game. It's very atmospheric and I would recommend it, especially at that price. How does the control translate to KB/M?

There's nothing wrong with the controls. Perhaps there's something wrong with your gaming abilities?it is similar to Doom 3, but the camera isnt first person. the control is really pain in the neck. I played about 10-20 minutes and finally gave up.

The controls are perfect with a mouse and keyboard. I think some people are just resentful of the challenging environments in some parts of the game, much of the game is claustrophobic, without too much room to maneauver. You can't just run out into some big outdoor environment and snipe dumb enemies from a distance as you can in other wimpy games. I'll say it again - the controls are perfect, there's absolutely nothing wrong with them when using a mouse and keyboard. It's a fantastic game, but that comes at a cost. They were horrendous for me, taking into account of how enemies spawned within the levels.Don't think twice! It is THE most underrated game EVER, solely because of EA, who decided not to properly invest on advertisement.
HOT TIP: Use this and your problems with the movement issue will be over:
http://www.kennynet.co.uk/2008/12/22/dead-space-with-arrow-keys/.
You can also edit the ini file and enter a higher value on the mouse response (it's a 30 seconds operation).
Well i had no problems with aiming, i guess people have problems so there must be a problem in the game, i played it with vsync on. I got to say its like ss2, or atleast the closest thing to ss2. Its better than bioshock. Story is ok and the progression in the game is pretty good...unlike most games nowadays. So my point is that the singleplayer compaign is definetly worth it. I gave it a 9.0 its a very well design game in terms of a game, but as a product it has some control issues, still perfomance is amazingly good. Whatever the case i cant really re-play it, unlike RE5 i just saw no reason to replay dead space, i dont know why, but my first playthrough made me feel like its the best singleplayer experiance this gen!dakan45
which? RE5 or Dead Space, I'm confused on which one you mean?
I think you mean Dead Space, but then why would you not play it again?
Hell, I thought Metroid Prime for the Gamecube was the best singleplayer game last generation, but I kept playing it again and again, and I liked it better each playthrough.

If a developer has to depend on negatively handicapping the player controls for a challenge, then that's not my type of game, lol...$10 is not asking for a lot, but all I can say is try it for yourself bud as it seems this is becoming a preference. Personally, the controls were rubbish in my opinion.

I'd say they invested tons of money on advertising it. There's an animated movie prequel, a comic book, a prequel game on the Wii and a feature film is in pre-production now.

I'm not sure what you mean by the game handicapping the player. The game is often cramped, yes, and somewhat difficult to maneuver. The game also doesn't allow you to run through enemies as if they have no substance, so if you're cornered you're in trouble. But there isn't anything wrong with the controls, you can move forward, backward, left, right, and aim with a mouse. What so hard about that? The game doesn't allow you to roll or hide behind things like in Gears of War, but so what? To the OP, if you like DOOM 3, you'll like Dead Space. Buy it, and come back in here and tell us how much fun it was.the game is pretty awesome.....its like resident evil 4 and 5, except really really good. Plus, you can move an aim at the same time. The graphics are pretty good, and the environment is awesome. I've not had any problems with the controls. I preferred it with kb/m, when i hooked it up to my friends tv, he enjoyed the 360 controller more. the game is very atmospheric, and i think it is very very worth 10usd, heck, i paid 50usd for it and think i still would. its a great deal
for 10 bucks? Hell yea. I am pissed I just bought it for 30 bucks a couple weeks ago  its not a great game, but its fun and will make u squirt ur pants a few times

It's not a DOOM 3 clone, but the inspirations are obvious. It's much newer than DOOM 3, for starters, and it's definitely different. Just go buy the damn game. Trust me.I enjoyed DOOM 3 mostly but......
Dead Space isn't too much of a clone not to offer a different experience is it?

+1 I actually played some of it on the PS3... Even with a controller the game just felt clumsy to me - combat was a pain. I enjoyed the atmosphere/visuals/story but I put it aside after playing through some of it because I didn't like the gameplay. The stomp mechanic was cool though.it is similar to Doom 3, but the camera isnt first person. the control is really pain in the neck. I played about 10-20 minutes and finally gave up.

I'm not about to check out all of those links, but the few that I did check out have plenty of people retorting the claims that there is some problem with the controls in the game - just like in this thread. I've been playing days since the commodore days (before NES), and I played Dead Space thoroughly. There are nothing wrong with the controls in the game, no matter how much you're trying to claim that they are. Just because they feel slightly different than other games doesn't mean they're broken in some way. Most of the posters in this thread who've played Dead Space disagree with you, by the way. Lastly, the game is sometimes claustrophobic and difficult to manoeuvre, that's a given. That's part of the game, though.[QUOTE="OoSuperMarioO"]http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/42406/Dead-Space-PC-Has-2nd-Worst-Controls-Ever[QUOTE="AFBrat77"]

Clearly I cannot tell you what controls in what games you should or shouldn't like. You're entitled to your own opinion. It's been a while since I played Dead Space, but I do remember the controls feeling different. It didn't bother be one bit, though - I just got used to them. I remember there being a semi-challenge with the controls, but I assumed it was simply how the game was designed and played on. I also really liked the game. That's really all I can say to the OP - that I think the game is worth $10 and that he won't regret buying it. With respect to numerous posts on the subject from several users, clearly some users didn't appreciate the fact that Dead Space didn't feel like other games they've played. Oh well. From what I've seen, gamers who feel that way about Dead Space are in the minority. I also feel that it's silly to expect all games to feel the same.[QUOTE="kraychik"][QUOTE="OoSuperMarioO"]http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/42406/Dead-Space-PC-Has-2nd-Worst-Controls-Ever

I'm convinced.....I'll buy it now
I figure if its just a matter of getting used to the controls I can handle that.......I remember playing the remake of Resident Evil on the gamecube, took a while to get used to the tank controls, but I did, and then bought RE2 and Veronica X with similar controls. With RE it was a matter of design to keep the players on their heels, perhaps Dead Space is similar in that respect. I'll keep an eye on the v-synch though.
Thanks all!

most of those quotes are from the exact same source. so...a few people had a ton of issues with the controls. but obviosly there are at least a few who didn't. why not play with a gamepad if the KB/M controls are that bad???i got through 2 chapters in one sitting.... a pretty good game which not even the horrendous camera can undermine. definitely get it if you like the genre.
I personally loved the controls, they suit the game perfectly after all your in a big heavy suit and it definately adds to the game atmosphere and experience. One of the best games i played last year.
All the complaints on control issues probably come from people who expected a standard fps game, i mean each to their own you like it or don't but i don't want a clone of every other fps game out there. I like when the devs change things up and take me out of my comfort zone as it makes the experience unique, and before you say it i don't believe the controls are accidentally bad i believe it was dev intention and they are not bad they are designed for this particular game.
