Dear Esther Help

I have no ide if I am posting this in the right place, but here is my question: I typically don't play games on my PC, but I am no dumby about what the setting mean and what not. However, I cannot for the life of me make Dear Esther run without lag. AMD Athlon II X4 650 Processor, 3200 Mhz, 4 Cores, 4 Logical Processors 8GB of RAM ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics card that came on the motherboard (but should be pretty good) 1920-by-1080 60hz 32 bit/pixel monitor (huge- I think it's 22 in. diagonal) Shouldn't this be more than enough to run Dear Esther? I set my settings to low, but there is still a lag. To be clear: I push the w key, about 0.3-0.5 seconds later, I move forward in the game. This is unacceptable. I know PC gamers do not put up with this. I discovered that if I set my resolution down to very low, the lag is significantly reduced, but still present. I should not have to set my resolution down, should I? Also, I have turned VSync off. So, what should I do, and does anybody have recommended settings for me?TheManTheManMan

there's your issue. No dedicated video card, gaming will be very tough on that

You need a dedicated GPU to play games like that w/ out lag.

You should post in the PC hardware fourm asking someone to explain GPU's. I'm not prepared to write a wall of text right now lol.

You should be able to get a graphics card for your desktop. As for the question of how people game on laptops, not all laptops use motherboard graphics. Mostly just the real cheap ones you get at walmart or sams club that come loaded with a bunch of "help you out cuz you're stupid" software, and are just designed for people to check email and watch youtube. I use a custom built Dell Studio XPS laptop from about almost 3 years ago. It's not even necessarily a "gaming" laptop, but it has a dedicated ATi graphics card. I play Just Cause 2, Crysis and Crysis 2, Skyrim, Arkham Asylum, GTA4, LA Noire and Resident Evil 5, among others. Some of them don't run as well as I wish they would, but they're all playable. Oh yeah, I also got Dear Esther. Runs perfect.

it's not a video game

good games: nintendo exclusives (zelda, mario galaxy 2)

sega fanboy, mainly sega genesis too many games (sonic, rka, sor, shinobi, shmups thunder force 3)

lots of ps2 games

klonoa series, nights, so many others

i think zubin is the only one on gs who knows i actually spend more time playing console games than on pc lol, always have.(the two characters in my sig are from consoles )

I am having a bit of trouble running it on my mac to. I have a mac OSX Version 10.6.8 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory on 2.4GHz and 2.53GHz configurations Intel HD Graphics with 256MB. I know I should get another NVIDIA drive but I thought it would be able to run with the 330M one. Could someone recommend a graphics processor that is compatible for mac that is great for gaming. Is there room in your PC case for a graphics card?

Does your power supply have enough voltage to support a dedicated graphics card?

I am going to assume you dont want something to expensive or mind blowing, so you can try an older, lower tier card.

These are options for the GTX 550. might be good for you? maybe? possibly. idk. hope this was helpful.

BUT! Dont buy it unless you have done your research about your computer and are confident you can install it yourself (its hard at all, look it up on youtube)

srsly tho, do your reasearch, you wont be able to put this in your mac, but if you have a desktop PC you might be able to.

and there is more to Dear Esther than that. the narrative has different parts that randomly show up. you cant here it all in one playthrough.
