As the rather patriotic people above stated, Valve is based in the USA and so Steam uses US English, and therefore has the US Flag icon. It would have been nice if they included an English (UK) option for us Brits, but there'd be no real point, in all honesty.
So, just because a few words are spelled differently in America, all of a sudden it's an American language? Please. If the language was called American, but there was a British flag next to it, I'm sure the aformentioned patriots would have something to say about it.As the rather patriotic people above stated, Valve is based in the USA and so Steam uses US English, and therefore has the US Flag icon. Because Valve is an American company and they use American English. They're probably going to use the word "color" before they ever even consider spelling it as "colour".

America! F*** yea!
Coming to save the motherf***** day, yea!
The reason it's not there is because there is a difference between British English and US English. Steam is an American company and I'm pretty sure US English is used as the universal language over Oxford English (not really sure about that one, so correct me if I'm wrong).

In the window where you select the language you want Steam to display, there's an American flag next to English!! Why isn't there an English flag? There isn't a Brazilian flag next to Portuguese, there isn't a Mexican flag next to Spanish, there isn't a Canadian flag next to French....so why the **** is there an American flag next to English?x-2tha-z
American English =/= British English
Steam is in American English, not British English.
It would be rather stupid to put an English flag next to it.

lol of course it makes fun of itself..that's why its funny...is everyone so uptight in here:oops:Uh..I would guess that there's an American flag because they're using American English, and not UK English? What's so strange?
No, the two aren't quite the same..there are a number of small differences. One that sticks out in my mind is that the phrase "my co-worker is in hospital" is considered proper in UK English, but improper in American English.
