Yea... well i dont see how taxes and merchants make a deep resource management game...

And i have played the game... i mean more like gathering iron, melt it, make weapons of the processed ore, or make other metal things.

Or have a sheep farm, gather its wool, make clothes

Those two are pretty much it, if you intend to keep an element of warfare it. Maybe the Stronghold series.

You can go further into the resource management (but removing or reducing the fighting) in games like Ceasar IV, Patrician 3, Port Royale 2, Railroad Tycoon 3, The Guild, and a few others.

Conversely, you may want to try something like Europa Universalis 3. Probably deeper than Anno/Settlers, though not as heavy on resource management.

I have been looking for a strategy game to replace the Anno series myself, havent really found anything yet. :(

@ dayaccus: Medieval 2 has plenty of strategy, but its very light on the ability to micomanage economy.

i could not get into port royale 2 no matter how much i read and how many times i kept going back to it its so difficult even on easy setting to do simple stuff like trading guess its not so simple but I think im gonna try Europa Universalis 3 how does it differ to Port Royale 2 and out of Europa Universalis 3 PR2 and Anno 1701 which is the best?

What... O_O Universalis 3 is like playing Hearts of Iron 2... its just Strategy Port Royale 2 is good BUT the user - interface is a LITTLE to hard... the origional port royale is better... isch The Anno Series is the closest you will get, that gives a DEEP scratch on that resource - micro - management thingy, ITCH. That everyone has in this genre... The newest Anno game Anno 2070, now thats going to be an interesting play ^_^

im also going to recommend the stronghold series. its not brilliant on the combat side but theres a fair bit to the management side of things. there is basically supply chain management and then managing population health and so on. could be up your alley TC.

Try out some of the Patrician games.

Maybe even Commander: Conquest of the americas

I heard mention of Port Royale 2 and it's difficulty as a problembut some would see that as a good thing. :)

Possibly the Guild 2? I have never played that but it looks like an economic sim. I might be wrong on that.

Problem is Anno 1404 seems to be the best of the best. Will be hard to find a product of better quality than that game. But you never know. :)

In reply to Stronghold series, the Settlers have tried to match it with Settlers Heritage of Kings, and I'v also herd they'v made a 3D Settlers finally. with the Settlers 7 ^_^ Oh ye, and the might and magic genre, get your hands on Diablo 3 ^_^

Europa Universalis 3 and Hearts of Iron 3.

Beware, these are the most complex strategy games ever made. They aren't RTSs, but they are real time. They aren't 4x games either. These are Grand Stratagy games and I think it's what you want.

Europa Universalis 3 is what you want to start with. Hearts of Iron 3 is not for the weak hearted. I can't even get into that game thanks to its amazing complexity.

Anno 2070 is coming out in a week or so iirc. Should be really awesome if it is even half as good as Anno 1404
