I hope your joking too. A Defrag should only be done when a drive is fragmented. Windows will allow you to analyze the drive before you defrag so you can tell if it's fragmented. You can actually decrease the longevity of your hard drive by defragmenting it too much. Fragmentation does not occur by simply installing a large program. It occurs when you Delete and create many different files of many different sizes many times. That is what causes fragmentation. fragmentation will occur more often when you delete a large program than when you install one.
If you don't defrag it makes your hard drive do more work in the first place, so if you defrag everyday the defrag is less than 10 minutes. I defrag everyday, and set my server up to do as well.I hope your joking too. A Defrag should only be done when a drive is fragmented. Which is the best defragment software?ZillaschoolWindows works, diskeepr is probably the best but it isn't free. WIndows is very quick if you defrag everyday.
yea by default in vista it schedules a weekly defrag
but i think it's totally fine to also do a manual defrag after you install a program/game with many files
not quite I recommend you defrag after you uninstall a bunch of programs/games.I recommend a defrag each time you install something new.

[QUOTE="Vaultn00b"]not quite I recommend you defrag after you uninstall a bunch of programs/games. it's a good idea to do both, imo. windows defrag is fine. you don't even need another program to do it. even with vista you can run defrag from the command line and it force windows to defrag. you can also tell it do a full defrag instead of the default partial defrag. i made a .bat file that gives me these options in a menu and i just pick what i want and it does it. works great.I recommend a defrag each time you install something new.
