Right now in the Dell XPS 400 there is a 7600 gt gpu installed and I was wondering if anyone knew if a 8800 gt would fit inside?

If your PSU can power a 8800GT and the 7600GT is PCI-E x16,it'll work.

yes it would fit since the XPS's cases are large form factors. and it should be able to power a 8800GT as there PSU are pretty effiecent i think they have a 375W on the XPS 400...

Doesn't 375w seem kind of low? I see so many people recommend 500+watts. Another question too. It's a 3.2 ghz Pentium D dual-core, 2gb RAM, if I put a 8800 gt would the cpu bottleneck it? Btw, it is PCI-e

its not all about howmuch watts becuase you can get a GTX on a 420W PSU aslong as its effient enough. you will see a bottleneck and its probably going to hold you back around 30% depending on the resoultion you play at.. i would get a new PSU and upgrade your cpu to an E2160 at least...

Im looking at the E6750. And that is a 775 socket. Would a pentium D be a 775 socket too ya think?

yea the pentium D's were LGA775 socket you it would most likely work, but im sure your mobo isn't 1337mhz so maybe get a cpu with 1033mhz FSB instead because i think your mobo is 800MHZ FSB...

What would happen if I put the 1337mhz cpu in a motherboard that was 800?

As for CPU upgrades in a XPS400. Anythin over a Pentium D aint happening. The XPS400 motherboards dont support the Core 2 Duo chips.

Dell came out with the XPS410 which had a different motherboard and supported the Core 2's.

So I would have to put in a new motherboard and cpu in order to have the 8800 gt work and not be bottlenecked?

I dont know if you already built the system, but I have an XPS400 and i got (as you can tell by my signature) 3GB of RAM and an 8600GT and its still running fine.

Although I am thinking of upgrading to SLi but then that means I would have to get a new system since 400 motherboard wont support it OR overclocking.

This is a perfect topic since I too am looking to upgrade my video card. I also have an XPS 400. My system currently has an ATI Radeon X600 256MB Hypermemory Driver with an Intel Pentium D 2.80 GHz & 1.50 GB of RAM. I've been looking around Newegg, Tigerdirect & Buy to find an 8800 GTS for my system.

Somehow from reading the posts the full potential of the 8800GT won't be used so the extra money I'd spend on the 8800GTS would be useless. Am I correct? Would I be better off looking/obtaining an 8800GT rather than an 8800GTS?

I had sort of the same problem only that CSS didn't run WELL. If you havent upgraded it at all all i suggest is buying some more RAM. That should do the trick, and if you still want more power I suggest getting another graphics card since the 7300 it comes with isn't that great.

I dont really know how to translate ATI Radeon to nVIDIA, it'll just depend on what games you're playing, i'f your playing CSS or HL2, more RAM should do the trick. As far as graphics, I play CoD4 and HAD to upgrade my graphics card to an 8600GT. I also think that if I didn't do it before, I would of also had to upgrade my RAM.

With the 3GB of RAM and 8600GT i have i get like 70-80 latency on CoD4. The 2GB of PNY RAM cost me $80 at Best Buy (on Sale) and my 8600GT I got for christmas but im estimating anywhere from $130-$150

Srry i went of into a tangent but as far as you 8800GTS purchase, I read a post by a guy who did what your thinking of doing and he said his XPS400 ran like a rock. Like I said it'll just depend on what games you play.

I really hope you meant to say FPS or something and not latency. Latency is a reflection of your internet speed.

oh really, i never new that, I always thought it was like ur FPS, well i mean the number on the side of like your score...which i still think it's your latency...but w/e... I'll check my FPS for shure but bottom line, it runs pretty solid.

I didn't know, but i cranked up the resulution to 720p on CoD and it still runs pretty solid. LOOKS AMAZING!

UPDATE: ok I checked my FPS, i get like in the 30-40 range... yeah its not hat great but its pretty much where you want it, special playing in HD, in 1024x768 I get in the 50-60 range.
