Intel® Core2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium with Digital Cable Support
3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs320GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s

16MB CacheSingle Drive:

16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability

No Monitor

512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT

Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

About $1,200 shipped. Seems like I wouldn't be able to build one for much less than this, so I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this model. I know Dell has a bad rep, but this seems like a pretty good deal.

dont worry about the DELL haters on this forum, this is a sweet rig you have there and if you had built it would have cost probably 200 less but the time it takes to build a rig is not quick and people seem to forget time also is extremely valuable...

Thats actually not a bad deal, though I am certain you still would be able to get it for cheaper if you built it.. Then again you do get good support..

And that being said I love Dell Laptops, they are my favorite brand when it comes to laptops.. And alot of reviewers tend to agree by giving their laptops high scores in performance.

Ordering from different sites for the best deals I could build that PC for around $970, so that price seems completely reasonable.

Same exact rig as mine except I spent the extra $50 to get 3gb 800Mhz memory.

Didnt get to test it out yet though :( Bought Crysis yesterday. Its waiting patiently in its box for the computer to come in.

If you don't plan on modifying your system, that is a good deal. Although, you can probably build one with the same specifications for $900 - $1000 (including tax), it is not worth the hassle if you don't already known much about computers. For example, I spent over 20 hours to research and build my first computer (I took the longest reading plenty of reviews before buying any one component, and finding the cheapest good components since I wanted to save money).

So it's really not worth it unless you enjoy building computers. Anyhow, Dell only has a bad reputation for their uncustomizable computer parts. For example, the I/O panel is built into their chassis for their inspiron models. So you would need a new motherboard if you decide to upgrade w/ something that will generate more heat because the inspiron chassis is too small to accomodate a lot of heat. I have no idea how the XPS models are built though.

Dell, on the other hand, has excellent customer service, and you get a warranty from them if you buy from them. If you ever have issues with your computer, you can just call them, and they'll quickly dispatch a technician to come to your house to fix it.

Thanks for all the comments guys. My rational was pretty much the same in that I'd be able to build one for a little cheaper, but the fact that I've never built a computer before coupled with not being able to have any service or tech support made the extra cash seem worth it. Well, wish me luck with it.
