So I had a little predicament today while checking out some game demos. For a number of demos I played I ran into some pretty unusual performance drops. I'm not usually running into any of those issues on any new games on my PC, but those are all full games, not demos. I also ran into some VERY ugly games. The graphics on some of the demos made me sick to the stomach. One such example is the FUEL demo. I've seen screenshots of the full game, but the graphics on the demo look far worse. Note: I always max out graphics on games.

So this leads me to the concluding question. Are full games much better than demos in terms of performance and quality (graphics, sound, etc.) or are they worse?

Depends on the game. There's obviously no general rule for that.

I see what you mean, but there's the problem with being a PC gamer. You really can't "try before you buy" with PC games. Usually, people can only rent console games (since most PC games nowadays can be played with a disk, destroying the purpose of renting). As far as I can see, demo's are really the only way to try the game itself.

Then usually those players 'try' the game and never buy it.

Then they must not have liked the game very much then. :P

That, or playing the game at a friends house. There are also a few services out there that let you play a game for a limited amount of time (the full version) to see if you like it or not.

Typically demos reflect the full game around its release. If patches had been released for the full game since its release, those patches wouldn't be reflected in the demo. If you're on a fence about spending money on a game, i recommend you to "try before you buy" - and I'm not talking about the demo.KHAndAnime
In terms of graphics and performance, the demo and full game should be pretty much the same.

demos are meant to spur you to buy the game, if they don't, don't purchase it. They are supposed to be an appetizer and you are supposed to buy the rest of the meal.
