Yes i am under a very low budget haha im so poor. BUT I LOVE WOW. THis laptop i have had for 4 years and could play WoW all right on this Intel Pentium processor with an Intel Extreme Graphics card AT FIRST..but now gameplay is verry choppy at like 15 fps. pretty old...well the ventilation is getting bad and the computer just shuts off when I watch high quality videos or when i play WoW because the laptop overheats. Currently i have put little Spice containers under the laptop to raise it off the desk so the air could circulate better. It worked for a lil bit but it still shuts off =[ So now i am deciding to buy a new desktop instead of a laptop. (mainly because they last longer plus they are better for gaming..i think) So yeah the reason why i am poor is cuz im only 14 and i don't have a job but i am hoping to get some money for my birthday so me and ma brother can go computer shopping =p. ANY SUGGESTIONS GUYS?

Do you mind building one or would you rather buy a pre-built one? Either way, you could possibly max WoW with $500.

WoW does not take much to max, my old computer from 2002 could almost run it on max.

Do you have a monitor already or will you need to cover that as part of the $500?

Pre-built. I don't want to spend time building one. My brother would know how to do something like that but I kinda just want to use it right out of the packaging.

Well I can tell you this much, if anything try to avoid Dell. But if anything just looks for any prebuilt computer that has a decent video card and about 2-4 gigs of ram. Processors these days should be higher than pentium 4 so anything above would be okay.

I am not sure if I am abiding by forum rules, but after a quick research, I saw a bunch of rather decent computers on Newegg, budget wise getting a 17 inch or 19 monitor would hit your budget perfect.

Uh Isn't the new WOW expansion coming out soon? I would wait for that to come out and see what the requirements are for it. They might add some graphical improvements with the next expansion. But as others have said a $500 rig will be able to max out the current Wrath of the linch king expansion. BTW! Edit button is in the drop down menu right over there in the corner ------>

Might not be able to max it if you expect a monitor to be included in the $500 price tag.

Sorry but I have no idea. I don't know anything about integrated graphics cards and stay far away from them. Why are you wanting to go with integrated graphics? You could probably find a used Radeon HD4870 for around $100 which would blow away any integrated graphics. To answer your above question. A GPU stand for "Graphics Processing Unit" and is what people use to say Graphics Card.

All rite heres a link of the computer im gonna get.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883147105

pretty nice specs except for the graphics card..I was thinking of putting in a BFG 450W with a 9400GT. The GPU requires PCI 2.0. But the computer has PCI 1 X 16. I think it can handle it tho from what ive herd in the customer reviews...some kid put in a 9800GT with a BFG 550 so i assume i can do what im tryin to do..

BTW how much watts does the Radeon HD4870 that u sed above require?

Try this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Compaq+CQ5320Y+Desktop+with+AMD+Athlon%26%238482;+II+Processor+%26+18.5"+LCD+Monitor/9999126100050005.p?id=pcmprd126100050005&skuId=9999126100050005

And get one of these for it:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102855&cm_re=hd_4670-_-14-102-855-_-Product

It should suit your needs pretty well, and you won't need a new power supply or a 6-pin power supply adapter for the 4670, which is pretty uncommon for any card that performs anywhere near as well.

Stupid glitchspot won't let me linked. My html is not formed well my ass.

snipergun2895

You can use any monitor or tv with a HDMI or DVI port. It can also work with a VGA port if you get a cheap $5 DVI to VGA adapter.

Since that link doesn't work try

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemplatemapper.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&id=pcat17080&type=page&lcn=Computers&sc=abComputerSP&st=processingtime:>1900-01-01&usc=abcat0500000&cp=1&sp=%2Bcurrentprice+skuid&nrp=15&qp=crootcategoryid%23%23-1%23%23-1~~q70726f63657373696e6774696d653a3e313930302d30312d3031~~cabcat0500000%23%230%23%2311a~~cabcat0501000%23%230%23%2329~~nf396||5061636b616765204465616c73&pagetype=listing

It's the one that costs $429.98, third one down the list I think

EDIT: God damn it. Why won't GS let me link?

DDR2 and DDR3 doesn't really matter that much. The clockspeeds are higher on a DDR3 stick, but unless you are going to do some overclocking, getting more DDR2 memory is probably going to be better than less DDR3 memory.
