Alright, I have a slight desktop problem...where do I start, ok well just out of the blue one day my desktop sort of "locked up" and I am unable to adjust the background settings in the properties menu. I can set a picture as a wallpaper but it won't show up on my screen. All I can set is a background color which overlaps my wallpaper (I know this because whenever I turn my computer on or off I can see the wallpaper I set briefly before the the color background overlaps it). Here is a picture of the properties tab for my desktop....

Please help if you can! Any help is appreciated.

Definitly not a virus. You need to state more about your situation. Does anyone else use it? Is there more than one account? etc. Press F8 at start-up and type net user then select an account and change the password. try starting the comp again normally. All check if you locked tool bars and anything else.

Alright this computer does have multiple accounts. This is the primary one used however, it is NOT the administrator. I'll try those suggestions soon. But I'm busy at the moment, uhh, what other details do you need on my situation?

How do I check if the tool bar is locked? You want me to change the password on the account that has the problem?

Alright, I believe that the administrator only has the ability to change most computer setting. Though desktop back I don't think is one of them... If you can get the administrator account open, try right clicking in there. Clearly if no problem exists then its just your account. Honestly I can't say much into this, I am more a hardware guy.

Well, I can adjust the background in all other accounts except for this one. So clearly it is this account...Well thanks for the effort though, I appreciate it.

Actually I do have one more question. You see, I'm not that intelligent when it comes to computer, hardware, and problems. Do you know who might know the answer to this problem? Where should I ask etc.?

Hmmm...alright, I might do that, I mean it's not that big of a problem....but I make wallpapers etc., so I usually prefer to have some of my work on my background. Well thanks for the help. Very much appreciated.

Well I have a lot of **** on this account, adobe photoshop and other programs. I don't really know how to move them to another account. Like I said, I'm very ignorant when it comes to computers. Type and click...that's about all I know.

I don't think that the account has anything to with whats accessable on the hard drive. It should be a problem, sign in as guest and see if you can use everything.

Try going into the desktop tab in display properties, then click on Customize Desktop at the bottom, and then click on Restore Default. Then try adding your wallpaper again.

...I think that only restores the desktop icons back to normal...not the desktop itself. I might as well use the administrator account, you see this computer wasn't mine to begin with so I made a seperat account but it later became mine and I never bothered to switch...I should be able to access all of the data from this account on the administrator...should have just done that in the first place. Alright thanks again everyone.
