If I got it right now would the graphics blind my eyes or would the gameplay blow me away? In comparision with today's games.

well the graphics certainly won't blow you away. the gameplay...well, let's just say that it puts a lot of modern games to shame. No game has brought action/rpg together so seamlessly, in my opinion. Just play it and get lost in the world which unfolds before your eyes. Also, pick up Invisible War. It's not as good as Deus Ex but it's still an enjoyable sequel.

Just like the poster above, the original has some real awesome gameplay that'd get anybody hooked on the game. As a matter of fact, back when the original was bran spanking new, everyone alknowledged Deus Ex had horrible graphics for its time. In the end, the gameplay/story proved graphics don't need to be cutting edge to be a classic.

Hmm this question was asked many times before actually. Anyways I my opinion is that the game is great and it did blow me away with its gameplay. I was also surprised that the graphics are quite good for that time. I played it for the first time last year (2009) and finished it. The game starts bit slowly but it gets more interest as you play it. I enjoyed the game more than many recent games.

There is a mod, that really helps the graphics. Its not mindblowing but it atleast adds textures. I dont care to look it up right now but you can google it.

I got to Paris and put it down for a while, I haven't been back yet although I do intend to finish it at some point. It's a pretty good game and I imagine in it's time it was briliant. Playing it today however it does hold up to something like ME2.

If you are going to play it I suggest watching some gameplay videos. The gameplay is quite old school, for example the shooting at the start can be very frustrating (due to low skill points).

I suggest Kikoskia's lets play series.

Graphics are extremely dated but the gameplay can still stand up to many games today.

It's a game that as you play it you will begin to appreciate it more and more. This game was well ahead of its time, even to this day its far more intelligent than the latest releases.

If you have never played it before it will be really hard to get into it today especially with just how controls have so much better over the years. The shooting in the game is terrible an the AI is pretty bad. Story is predictable and cliche, the same ol same ol government and corps are evil deal. Its a decent game, I will say this though, for the time the game was really good consideing there weren't games like this back then, but its hard to like this game specially since games are so much better than this one. Honestly if you want to play and aren't really bothered by broken shooting mechanics, or old visuals, or um really really bad voice acting, and thats not even an exaggteration, there was an asian character that tried to say Flesh but instead she said "Fresh" its pretty bad. But anyway yeah if you can tolerate how just dated the game is then id at least play before the prequal comes out so you can get an understading of the universe. Or you could just read it on wikipedia.

I remember finishing the game on a Nvidia RIVA TNT2 and a 466Mhz CPU. The game ran terribly. I had to turn all the settings down and it still ran slow and choppy in most parts. But I didn't care. The game was that good. Haven't tried the game in recent times, so I don't really know how bad the game looks/plays nowadays. I recently finished the first Thief game (Dark Project) and thought that looked horribly dated.

I respectfully have to disagree with you here protoss brother. The game's concept is still unsurpassed.

It might not be as polished as, say, Bioshock or ME2 but conceptually and how it blends several genre into on is still unsurpassed.

Broken shooting mechanics? This is a pc game, no auto-aim. And the beauty of this game, was you could choose how you wanted to approach a situation. Go in guns blazing with rocket launchers and machine guns, or snipe some people from a distance and use a tranquilizer dart. You upgraded your skills to match your style, the aim was perfect. Stalker uses a similar system, need to upgrade your guns to make them worth a damn. I miss needing at least a little skill to play, go back to the console if you can't aim.

If you didn't play the game when it was new it will feel VERY dated both in gameplay and graphics. The RPG mechanics are nice, but the shooting is utterly abysmal until you fully upgrade your guns. Graphically, there are a few mods that upgrade the textures, I would avoid the ENB Series mod though, since that does what most of the ENB series mods do and makes the game look even worse by randomly placing bloom everywhere.

Well the blending of RPG and first person shooter hybrid /stealth was great back then, but its jsuta very dated game today it would be hard for people that didnt understand what it was or are not very tolerant to those types of games. For me I played it about 5 months ago, And it was a decent game to me. I woouldn't call it the greatest game of all time as some people on gamespot say, but id give it a solid 7/10. For me the game is jsut really dated, i know what it did backt then was gorundbreaking, but the acting, the story, and combat is pretty meh. Its a good game in terms of overall freedom of choice when dealing witha situation, but sometims the combat makes things frustrating, the saving is bad, (ok ok ok the voice acting is bad but it made me laugh), and the story isn't bad it jsut felt kinda poorly executed towards the middle and end. its jsut dated is all. Marry poppins was a great movie for its time but I wouldn't want to keep playing it over and over again.

I completly agree, I got the game because everyone here rages how it is the best game ever made. I was very disappointed when I finially played the game. I modded the graphics, the story was good, I like that kind of thing but I fail to see what makes this such a masterpiece. What you can choose to not kill anyone and sneak tru vents, or release deadly gas etc... or just shoot them. I can see this being great in its day but people here act like it is STILL the best game out there, which I find to be a joke.

I'm using the New Vision mod right now. @TheShadowLord07 It does improve some of the most often used environmental textures, but does not improved the human models.

Just one thing, if you haven't played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. before and you decide to play Deus Ex - May the power of the quicksave be with you.

What will blow you away is the amount of interactivity with the word and ways to do various things. Do this: Quicksave and try something then quickload and try another way to do it. You wil lbe amazed by how many ways are to do something.
