Just a shout out to developers; get that blur out of my games! It's horrid! Every game that has blur, I try and turn it off immediately. If I wanted blur, I'd put on some fuzzy goggles before gaming. Sure...some may like it, but at LEAST have it as an option we can turn on/off. Example...Far Cry 3. The game looks horrible when driving, but then when I fixed the blur (edit configuation file) it's STUNNING. Really, the difference in fidelity is huge. With blur on at stock Ultra settings, the game really looks horrible, at least when driving or going fast. However, without blur, the game rivals Crysis 2 dx11/high textures or Battlefield 3. It's a great looking game. Why cover it up?

Join me in my rant against blurriness! Or fight against my position...hopefully devs will notice we PC gamers have nice rigs so we can see good graphics...blur was introduced to keep people from seeing poor graphics on consoles. Even if some people like it (which is fine...nothing wrong with that) it should at least be an option to turn off in games.

Also...tell your' friends to come write on this thread so it can be huge and devs will notice. ;)

It is dumb and has just caught on in almost every game for some reason. As if my eye's own naturally small cone of focus and depth blur weren't bad enough....

Which value do you have to change to get rid of the motion blur? It's quite annoying at high speed indeed.

Add over-done bloom the list. Believe it or not, I don't actually like having to squint while I play my games.

I don't notice much blur in far cry 3. Bf3 certainly has lot of it on defeault, I have set at just above zero. I like my effects fairly minimal so they are subtle and rare. Like most effects in games, they overdo things because they want people to see them.

Yes, and that happens automatically. When it's done in the game, it's blurred twice. Your eyes are still there, it's not like the limitations of your eyes goes away when looking at a screen.

Play Syndicate, then play every other game. You'll be thankful they don't use as much blur/bloom like Syndicate does.

Next-gen is going to be all about post-processing filters as games keep pursuing the traditional look of film. The blur and optical aberrations of SW1313 are a sign of things to come:

I don't mind a bit of blur, but in some games its a little heavy and gets really annoying.

You need to move your head quicker.... MUCH QUICKER....no... EVEN FASTER THAN THAT.

No? Ok, now do it again but film yourself with a webcam..... FASTER !!!!

Now upload the footage to the YouTube and send us the link.

I had to enter in quite a few commands...http://i4.minus.com/ibqyk1G5hUfQpq.png has what you need. Just go to your docs/mygames/far cry 3 and edit the config file there, then type in the commands quoted in red on the link I just placed. It makes a WORLD of difference in Far Cry 3. Enjoy!

The reason we see silly effects like this in games is because the 'artisitic' people who couldn't make it in Hollywood eventually make their way into PC game studios.

Blur is not as excessive in real life as it is in most games. Most games treat blur like a horrible frosting effect.

You don't get it. If the game is accurately rendered, it will be blurry when you are going 80 MPH anyways because you don't focus that quickly. Your eyes naturally make it blurry.

Do you rub Vaseline over your eyes when you drive down the interstate in real life to get that "realistic" feel too?

I like blur, if used right. I think it adds a good bit of realism. Especially in FPS games where its trying to simulate what your eyes would see. I do think that nowadays many devs are using it to cover up weak textures and to make the graphics seem better than they are, but when the base graphics are good I think blur actually makes things look more awesome. Bloom is nice when done right too, but its often done completely wrong. Lights do emit a sort of bloom halo in real life, reflecting particles and such in the air, but many games just slap a halo around a light and call it bloom.

The difference is what you are seeing on the screen is perceived 3D. In reality you are looking at a flat 2D image, and your monitor is static, so what you're saying is an impossibility. Unless of course your monitor's refresh rate blows, then I'm sure you would get some nice blur on moving objects :)

I'd rather have overused motion blur than the terribad post process anti-aliasing crysis 2 uses (pre modded-in sharpen filter).

Been complaining about this for years. I don't game on PC to have smear or popup or other lame limitations. Hence I have not bought or played very many of the console ports we are getting nowadays and I am happy.

The only way that point would be relevant would be if the blur effect were rendered in the 3D space of the game rather than an effect over the whole field of view. Things in the distance would not be as blurred as something right in front of you.

Obviously, it's not rendered that way which is why blur in games looks like hot garbage. If it was rendered correctly within the 3D space, no one would have a problem with it because then it would look realistic.

Also like to mention Post FX is sometimes implemented as a combination of graphics features like blur, bloom, FXAA. In some games, you either turn it off completely or leave it on and take the whole package. If you want FXAA because other forms of AA are too demanding, then you will have to deal with blur. In other games, it could be Post FX for lighting, like making the screen brighter.

You have never played Syndicate then. The bloom in that game is terrible. As far as I know, there isn't a work-around for it either.

ya i hate the blur also. luckily you can turn it off in most games still. bloom can be bad also in some cases.

FXAA blows also, a lot of games i've played recently had that but didn't have a normal antialiasing option. so your stuck with blurry FXAA unless you can force traditional AA outside.

That's why I use an autoexec to eliminate all AA in Crysis 2, then play with SweetFX. Looks about a thousand times better, and gives me a better framerate, too.

I dont like bloom or blur. Bloom can look nice but the problem is something on this scale:

---(Good Bloom)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(How much devs use)

instead of having bloom as a nice touch on certain materials and so on they use bloom and blur to cover how bad the graphics of the game are. Its kinda like a plague spreading over at the dev studios... Even pc games use these things now =(

I agree with you OP. The blur and post-processing effects have gotten out of control. It has gotten to the point where it detracts from the game.

Blur is to compensate for console hardware to prevent tearing.
