Diabli II/LoD still alive?

Thinking of buying it but as the game is rather old the online community shouldn't be that big either..

Is it still alive? Or just a few extreme veterans left? How does it play on line etcetc. I know it's a good game, but I'm not really into the SP part of it.

although i loved diablo 2 i played the ancients fury within, in my opinion its a lot better than the original, but you can't play it online, i don't think that there is any online gaming left for diablo, now titan quest and games like that have the lead

Can't play online? Last time I checked it was pretty much as active as starcraft (anywhere between 25 - 60 thousand people on at a time)ChrisJ2004

Now that sounds more promising. So say, starting now as a complete rookie won't really be a grand problem? Or are most folks already at the top level (99 if I'm not mistaken). Har, think I will pick it up.
