Diablo 2 worth it?

I've never played Diablo 2 and had friends who played it and always wanted to get it. Is it still worth it to get it today? Why or why not?

I would personally wait for D3 if you are basing it on online and not single player or multiplayer with friends. The game in its current state is fun if you are botting with friends cause then you have a good chance of actually building a great setup. But the way the system works you have to either cheat or worse pay real money to get good gear.

(Botting is pretty much the equivalent of TF2 idling, so its not really a big deal)

It feels very old, clunky and frustrating compared to newer ARPGs, but the random generation, fantastic combat and loot still make it fun. Unfortunately, a patch added something called 'synergies' that make certain abilities more powerful if you get other abilities to power them up, and it also raised the difficulty of the game to encourage players to use synergies. The issue is that most powers don't synergize, so a lot of previously-viable builds were rendered useless since you pretty much NEED those skills in order to survive endgame.

PVP I have no familiarity with. I used a thing called PlugY that allowed for infinite item storage and some other nice tweaks to make it less frustrating to play, but it doesn't work online.

If you get an older version of the game with the pre-1.10 patchyou can't play online either, and after that the synergies make levelling kinda one-dimensional.

I'd say wait on D3.

Yeah. Like I said don't listen to these people. The online has been ruined for years due to hacks, duping and botting... but the game itself is still a classic and definitely worth the money. You'll get the most fun out of it if you play through the game with some friends.
