Well Blizzard's big announcement at the Worldwide Invitational 08 was the continuation of their Diablo series, Diablo 3!

What's the story?

From the Blizzard News Blog

"Twenty years have passed since the cataclysmic events of Diablo® II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram..."

Will it be multiplayer?

When's it releasing?

As always with Blizzard games, it'll releasewhen they feel it's ready, and as such it's too early for them to annouce an estimate of the release date.

System Requirements?

Are currently unknown, however based upon Blizzard's previous games, it shouldn't be taxing on PC's that are current on release.

lol yeah i just came on and noticed that :P

anyways, im liking the look of D3 a lot although i expect there will be many complaints over the coming months when it comes to what they have done as that seems to be the case when Blizz announce new titles.

i really like the art style they are going for, it almost seems more "gothic" if you get what i mean, plus the GFX are looking really nice. i cant wait to see more of this game!

pretty much nerdgasmed lol, sunk a whole lotta time into D2 with my mates and it looked like the gameplay was still there with a big boost in visuals (D2 was along time ago heh), and if they add anything after that its all just bonus :P

I knew it. I can't wait until this game comes out. It's going to be epic.

out of the 2 games that have been announced by Blizzard, i'm much more impressed by D3 even though i was never a big fan of the franchise. imo Blizzard really did well with the annoucement, rounding up the great hype with a great website with a ton of detailed content. i'm liking everything i've seen so far.

that's not saying the game won't flop tho....balance issues, skill sets and quest structure are some of the problems that stopped me from truly enjoying D2, and there's no telling D3 is gonna inherit the same problems. i'd keep an open mind until i've seen more updates.

You'd kind of hope they will. They made drastic changes and gameplay additions from d1 to d2, and wc2 to wc3 if all they do in 8 years of waiting is a new graphics engine, minor interface tweaks and some cinematics/story I think we'd all be pissed.

Very beautiful graphics. The destructible environment is :shock:

My favourite part was after he made the first party in the dungeon and you could see that huge beast passing below in the shadows!

It will be on the front of every newspaper in the country by tomorrow morning!

I wonder how indepth the story will be and like someone here suggested: there has to be more than interface tweaks!!

In fact, the rather uninformative FAQ talks about how there will be new online features for it, which almost sounds like they are already trying to prep justification for some kind of fee structure when the previous game didn't have one. Damn you, World of Warcraft.

They said COOP, just as the Diablo series had, so it's safe to say you won't pay to play multiplayer. FFS just enjoy don't search for bad things just yet. :D

Random dungeons will still be a big part of Diablo III. In fact, randomness will prevail throughout the game (and we mean that in a good way). In addition to having randomly created dungeons to explore, the developers have also introduced random monsters, random loot droops, and new random scripted events into the game to make each playthrough a new experience.

The random scripted events sound like one of the coolest additions to the game. Each playthrough, players will encounter scenarios that are quite different from their previous trip through the game. In one area, you might see a house filled with undead enemies--along with a story about the home's former residents. The second time you play through that same area might contain a caravan that you'll be prompted to escort to safety. The next time that area might simply be filled with monsters just begging for the opportunity to be killed by you. Scripted events look to greatly increase the level of immersion into the world of Diablo III, while keeping the player coming back for more at the same time.
