Great for them, can't help but feel that it isn't deserved though.
Very small game. fiven the time frame. some poor choices (and some good, but not enough.) about the only "AAA" part was the smoothness of gameplay, everything else was bleh.
9million sales for a game which sucks ass. Shows what a reputation can do for a company in regards to sells. Too bad Blizzard diminished a lot of that rep by dispencing a massive turd on one of their flagship series.
Yes, that's nice.
but people now become more careful before buying Blizzard's game, thank to great design of Diablo 3.
It's a good game.
People expected it to be the second coming of gaming. It wans't. It has an 88 on Metacritic, just like Diablo 2.If there was something so wrong with the game that it is absolutly horrible, it wouldn't have that score. Everybody is being way the hell over dramatic about it.
At the end of the day it's fun to play the game with the various characters for a few times but it doesn't have the longevity that Diablo 2 had because Diablo 2 had dozens of patches an an expansion pack. I'll tell you from experience, Diablo 2 had more than it's fair share of problems in the year it was released. Everybody conveniently forgot about that and has thrown Diablo 3 to the wolves.
Hell, World of Warcraft wasn't even that great the first year, it only really took off after Burning Crusade. Even Starcraft 2 had a lukewarm start. It's Blizzards never ending support that keeps those games going.
Expectations were to damn high. When you see a Blizzard game you don't see a game that is amazing at launch and stays amazing forever, you see a game that has a lot of potential and keeps growing and growing as time goes on. That's been the story with pretty much every single Blizzard game. These games are measured in years, not months.
With Diablo 3 you can play the game a few times with several characters and multiple people and it's a lot of fun. I don't know how much more people were expecting it to be. It doesn't have end-game content, Diablo games never did. That didn't change because we as a community begged Blizzard for years and years because we wanted an experience really close to Diablo 2. We got that.
I understand the issue with the loot system, but those things can be fixed with time. I still think throwing the game to the wolves because of it is not right. I think a lot of us have outgrown our patients for grinding loot too. Why do you think all of the major MMOs today focus less and less on grinding loot and more about other content? Loot grinding is a very exploitable and boring venture.

Yep. but a lot of people are way too god-damned stubborn to admit that.
When the game released it was ok. Blizz then started to nerf classes and loot to the ground. Horrid item drops etc etc

Too bad Mass Effect 3 hasn't sold as much. Too bad too bad.
You are welcome to talk trash about Blizzard's success when a single game from Bioware has reached 10million.
The major thing Diablo 3 lacks is longevity. Imho, undeserved. Elann2008So Diablo 2 had longevity during its first 3 months?
Cool, great for them but Diablo 3 got boring for me when they released that 1.04 patch.
klusps
Umm... 1.04 isn't out yet. That's the next big patch, that they say should fix alot of the loot problems people are complaining about.

BAM!
I haven't touched the game in over the month. When I got to Nightmare mode, I realized that I was replaying the same exact thing over and over again, and forced to face the artificial difficulty curves because of poor loot drops and latency. The last two acts were rushed and the ending looked like something out of MLP, minus the rainbows. I'd rather SCII top this game, but I don't have many good things to say about that game either. With a company of Blizzard's caliber, I expected a bit more.
We'll see how Torchlight 2 performs, hopefully they can do a better job with only a fraction of the resources used.
The thing that ruined it for me was when they nerfed all my attack speed equipment which made it impossible to survive later inferno stages as a Monk. To make it worse they hiked up the repair fees seven fold and made your items lose durability a lot faster. So I would end up loosing more money trying to find gear or gold farm. You pretty much had no choice but spend real money at the cash shop because you will eventually run out of money repairing your equipment. So I hit a wall and was done with the game. I got around 85 hours from it so It lasted longer than just about any game I've played recently. It's a good game.

You are grossly overstating that. You can make 200k-300k easily in Act 1 doing Butcher runs. If you're dying that much then you're not ready for later stages of Inferno.

Agreed. I was pretty worried when I heard they increased the repair costs, but it turned out to not be a big deal. If you're dying so much you go broke repairing your gear, then you shouldn't be where you are. Go back a couple acts and do some farming til you get better equipment. I still make sh!tloads of profit every time I farm Act 1, even if I die a dozen times.

Assaulting someone's grammar when you know that the person intentionally did not phrase his sentences in idiomatic English is not a valiant rebuttal.Hey look, I can be a grammar nazi too: 'Poor trolling attempt, asswipe' is not a legitimate English sentence. It's not even a clause.
I can write however I want, so long as you react to it.

This happens everytime a Blizzard game releases it seems.
People complain and complain but will buy the next Blizz game anyway so their complaints are pretty much worthless.
I dont know what people expected from an ARPG. How it would have been possible to last longer once you finish the game.
The drop rate of good items can easily be fixed with a patch. And the most important of all is the pvp which isnt out yet. This will bring players back.
One thing that l dont like though compared to Diablo 2 is that you can change your skills anytime. So once l lvl up my monk l dont have to create another one
with different skills. This l think may have caused problems to the durability of the game.
How much did Diablo 2 sell again? Regardless, Diablo 2's designs were bad even back then.I dont know what people expected from an ARPG. How it would have been possible to last longer once you finish the game.

I not am saying that Diablo 3 is flawless, it is certainly flawed and will always be flawed but that doesn't mean its not worth the money.
It's a lot better and bigger than most 5-10 hours shooters out there.

I would like to know this as well.
The World of Warcraft annual pass gave away Diablo 3 for free aswell as a free mount and Mists of Pandaria beta access. The annual pass is basicly a 12- month commitment to subscribe. For people that always sub to WoW anyway this was a sweet deal.

I whole heartedly agree. Blizzard games tend to become exceptional over time with the introduction of expansion pack(s) and on-going support.
Going back on topic, it makes me a little sad that SC2 has sold less copies than D3 but it probably makes sense with D3 being more casual friendly and the controversy that was South Korea 2 years ago.
This happens everytime a Blizzard game releases it seems.
People complain and complain but will buy the next Blizz game anyway so their complaints are pretty much worthless.R4gn4r0k
Blizzard always has seemed to properly patch up their games in the end. It takes them awhile, but they do it. I'll bet in 2 years we'll see a Diablo 3 expansion and the game is going to play way different and be a lot more fun. Just watch. That's how Blizzard works.
Starcraft 2 had that as well, just not to the extreme. Starcraft 2 launched and people liked it, but it recieved a lot of early hate. Not as much as Diablo 3 of course, but the numbers were much smaller. When you're pushing 9 million sales, you're going to have more volumes of people upset.
World of Warcraft had the same isues. It launched, got universal priase for it's gameplay, the community started to hate it and already people were trashing it left and right, then Burning Crusade came out and it was patched up and then it started getting a lot of praise. Of course a year or two later they started stripping stuff down and making it more consumer friendly which has never set well with a lot of MMORPG fans.
Diablo 3 would have gotten even more praise at launch if it wasn't for the server issues. Those prevented the high AAA scores at launch. People get upset about the end game content being messed up at the moment but the game is more than just end game content.
They do need to fix that end game content up and get that PVP in ASAP. If they keep ignoring the problems, the game will never improve and the future expansion won't sell worth squat.
You complained about Starcraft 2 when it launched.[QUOTE="Sheppard212"]

Mass Effect 2 was superior overall in comparison for that year, so I had to give props to ME2. You can be buttfrustrated if you'd like just because I don't agree with you.
Still playing it almost daily, great game and can't wait for the patches to fix some things up (some stuff has already been fixed but ppl didn't care anymore, their loss). After I played path of exile it made D3 look even better and a lot of the choices Blizz made make more sense to me now. Anyone who played D2 wouldn't have expected anything more, except for those few little "issues" which are being worked on and maybe the graphics. (They are nice but they are different from D2).
I don't understand this "patches and expansions will make the game how it's supposed to be, that's how Blizzard rolls".
What happened to learning from the past? Why couldn't they deliver something as awesome and complete as D2 + expansion, and instead we're back to square one?
The more you read about and analyse this game the more obvious it is that most of the team doesn't want to take any responsibility for decisions and are working on groupthink and autopilot.
Why the f*ck does it take 3 months to add more than three sorting options for AH items?
