I've been trying to start the Diablo 3 game client for the first time. I just got a new internet connection, which is downloading about 500kbs/s. I had no problem downloading the game client (38mbs). When I try to start the game from there it is stuck at initializing 0.0%. Under connection information it looks like I will have to download another 8GB to try the game out.

Do you actually have to complete the 8GB download in order to run any portion of the game? Please help me on this question, because one time it looked like the status bar was shooting all the way up, but I was just closing the game client. It must have been my imagination because the other status bar was green, and this one was red. Also the client is not downloading the data. It is stuck at 64MB/ 8GB. I assume I will have to finish that 8GB download, so I won't be able to do that on my internet unless I can somehow jump start the program to start downloading, because it is not downloading at my 500kbs/s.

Ask directly to Blizzard?

Okay, I will try that. Do I need the 8 GB download to complete before I run the trial version of the game? If not, it might just be the internet, so an answer to that question here would be appreciated, since someone here already suggested that I download the Starter's Edition.

You gotta download the full client. Make sure to enable the downloaders on your firewall

Pretty sure that it's not the firewall. I actually deleted Mcaffee just to make sure it wasn't that. The internet seems to download everything else at 500kb/s, but sometimes steam won't open. Steam does work now at the right speed, so I'm hoping to make the Diablo 3 client download at the same speed. I have a ticket open with Blizzard, but if you can think of anything else please let me know. I was able to get up to .1% initializing, and then I could see that I definitely needed the whole download to play. Seems to me that it is definitely the Blizzard site. hopefully they have a way around that.
