Diablo 3 Topic

Hey, I'm a huge Blizzard fan who's looking forward to the next Diablo game more than anything (ANYTHING!!). I wanted to know what everyone thinks the next Diablo game should be like. Should it be the same old 2D top-view hack-and-slash RPG that the old Diablo games were? Should it be the old Diablo games with just much better 3D graphics? Or should it be some type of MMORPG with 3D graphics?

I would be happy with almost any Diablo game, as long as it has that same addictive hack-and-slash gameplay that the previous games had. Although, I would rather see the game with insane 3D graphics instead of 2D graphics.

My top choice as to what the next Diablo game should be is an MMORPG. Now, don't start complaining to me about how horrible WoW is, because I've played my fair share of itand got bored too. I think that the next Diablo game should be an MMO with the same fast-paced hack-and-slash action the previous Diablo games had (notthe traditional slow, time consuming MMO like WoW and others). Ithink it would be so cool if there was an MMO like this. It would also be cool if they could impliment a combat system that involves some sort of skillrather than a "targetenemy and press hotkeys" system (something innovative like the new "Tabula Rasa" or "Age of Conan" combat). Tome, this would be the ultimate game.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine Diablo being anything more then a single player game. And I love it just like that.

Now, maybe it would be sort of cool if you could get online and play co-op with just one other person. But, that's pushing the limits by 1.

I would like to see it continue down the path of Diablo 1 & 2 rather than turning into an MMO, with a complete experience for those that want single player, but also caters for those that want to play multiplayer.

It would be nice to think that Diablo 3 might be coming out sometime soon, but with no real announcements from Blizzard, who will no doubt be focusing heavily on Starcraft 3, I doubt we will see this game before 2010 :(

now before i get into a diablo MMO. let me lay down some ground knowledge which is accepted by most ppl (i say most to exclude the ppl still waiting on a D3). There will not be a Diablo # anytime in the near future. there cash cow (also known as WoW) is still running decent profits. with its next expansion en route (which i think is a sensless waste of time). i highly doubt there will be another diablo game. furthermore even if they were too try it would be pointless. all three prime evils are dead and 3/4 leser evils. having to kill 1 more andariel equivalent would be as pointless as trying to win in a game of russian roulette being played with a revolver (and you get to start the game off). the only way to make it seem more of a decent thing would to have them come back. which would completely ruin the game. there are no ways of bringing them back that would not be recieved by the public as cheeseball.

now even if it were too come out sometime withing the next 5 yeras it would probably have to be with blizard sitting on its laurels not wanting an mmo diablo. so an rpg (as it was origionally created). would be the fastest, and cheapest way of doing anything. an MMo just wouldnt be blizzards style. they arent content envelope pushers. there storyline makers.

Dude Blizzard aren't like other companies, they do what their creative vision requires not what their wallets want. If they wanted to max out profits they wouldn't totally scrap finished games several times. According to reliable sources they've made at least one version of Diablo III that I believe was scrapped. They same orchestra that recorded the previous Diablo music reported that they had recorded music for Diablo III. The guy writing fan fiction for Diablo recently said that "I'm not writing for a dead game".

Blizzard won't make Diablo III like WoW. They're too creative for that. They don't do games that are similar but with different IPs. They will make a Diablo type Diablo III. It's pretty likely to have MMO elements but an MMO is way too slow for a Diablo game. It's not a question of if they'll make it, it's a question of when it will be released.

ps. the DIII that was scrapped allegedly took place in heaven and hell so the prime evils wouldn't have to return to the mortal realm. Besides, the worldstone was destroyed so everything isn't really at peace. Tyrael might be evil?

Yeah, Diablo team is with Flagship and I believe ArenaNet (of Guild Wars fame) as well.

Diablo 3 a mmo? If blizzard did that there would be a mob with torches and pitch forks outside the office. mmo's are stupid. Diablo 3 would have to stay a hack n slash with awsome unique characters and a excellent story. I'm sure Blizzard could come up with a story that would rock, even though the prime evils are dead. Every hack n slash that comes out gets bashed because it's not Diablo 3. Blizzard would be dumb to not get a team together and make this game, this would be a game that would have fans camping out for the midnight release.

I remember when I killed Diablo for the first time before the expansion, I couldn't wait for the cutscene so I could see what happened. I miss games like that. I haven't been excited about a game's story line sence Warcraft 3. All the Diablo clone's haven't come close to that kind of effect on me.

seriously though i only just completed lod, and would love diablo3 to be as similar to 2 as possable but most of that teem split up and the story was kind of over,

Since when can demons be killed, after all there was a DIABLO TWO right?? If WoW had anything to do with Bliz coming out with new games, they wouldn't be making Starcraft 2 right now.

D3 would definately need to be a overhead perspective 2d mode. Otherwise it would need to be called "Hellgate: London" ;) . If there is apossible scenario, the writers can come up with a story. Taking place in the lower demonic realms would be cool. Not sure if they consider hell to be the basement of the underworld or not.

No its a first person shooter, not a birds eye perspective click fest.. Also the single player in that game wasn't the main draw it was the multiplayer where you played with other people.. That was fun and addictive.

Yeah man... I agree. Diablo 3 should be either Action RPG or not made at all. I'll not BUY A DIABLO MMORPG. It's unthinkable. And the whole 2D 3 D thing isnt an issue. It should be 3D but with a camera like D2 but zoomable and rotatable but NOT pannable. I can imagine the slash fest now.....:P

I wish they'd do the game but it seems like they are busy with "Wrath of the Lich King" expansion now... :(

I think the idea of Diablo 2 is awesome as it is though. I really wish they would bring out some new content though, maybe even 1.12 patch.

BTW people, Blizzard NORTH made the Diablo games. Blizzard NORTH does not exist anymore. It might take a while to sink in, but it will come to you.

If there ever will be a Diablo III, it is going to be a completely different game. And that's the reason I keep screaming "Hellgate London!" at you guys.

I always get a good laugh while reading posts that claim Hellgate as the next Diablo. Ignorance of that calibre is borderline comedy gold. Back on topic, Diablo 3 will more than likely happen eventually. There are numerous domain names related to diablo 3 which are direct links to blizzard's web page, they are undoubtedly reserving these for a future release as http://www.diablo3.com/ has been in use for quite some time now.

actually its not. Aiming has no affect on whether you hit or miss, just what creature you are trying to damage directly. Whether you hit or miss is based on the typical dice-roll in the background based on your stats. It is Diablo in 1st and 3rd perspective. Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't read all of the previews, interviews, and watched the videos. Random environment development, random item drops, skill trees... the similarities are about 10x more than the differences.

Which is fine with me, it looks like this game will ROCK.

Acutally while Hellgate isnt a true sequel or prequel to any of the Diablo games, the game has been modeled on Diablo 2 & you have to be quite ignorant to ignore the similarities between the two games since both feature DEMONS coming out of HELL also a few employees from Diablo 2 including the creator & president themselves also play part in the development process of Hellgate

Um, what? Deus Ex had a skill system that allowed the aiming reticle to shrink and stabalize more quickly so that you could get a good shot at the area of the target that you want to hit. With Hellgate the targeting reticle takes the place of the overhead mouse click, and that is it. If you are pointing in the general direction of your target(s) you will hit or miss them depending on the skill and attribute points that affect your aim. Two completely different things.

Diablo 3? Hmmm, I personally would rather see a whole new game than just another sequel to a played out game. Diablo2 was fun, but overall it's not truly an RPG, Baldur's Gate, Planetscape: Torment now those are RPGs.

So enough with my opinion, how about Diablo 3. What should it be like? Definitely not a MMO, because Diablo is all about the hero saving the world, not the heroes saving the world. It would have to be 3D, but possibly 3D in the sense of Warcraft 3 was in 3D but played from a top down perspective (almost 2D). I would hope that they enhance and change all features, because Diablo and Diablo 2 just became a routine of fight fight fight, pick up pick up pick up, sell sell sell, fix items fix items fix items, buy more potions and go back to start that all over again. If you want a much better diablo then I want blizzard to mix their RPG teams with their strategy team, where you have to care about your character, and not have a home base to go back to. I mean even in hell there was a homebase in Diablo 2. You should be stranded fighting for your life picking up whatever is dropped by your enemies and using strategy to keep your character alive, not just long runs back to home base only to return in full strength just to start all over again. Less repetition, and more originality. Same idea, the story was good (not superb), fast action, but the action gets old quick when you have to break to sell itms and repurchase potions. Blizzard makes great games yes, but too many times there games are great for a short amount of time (for me personally) except for Starcraft and Warcraft 2 & 3. WOW and Diablo get old quick, they need something that keeps you wanting more game, not more movies and storyline.

Just because some of the same guys that made diablo are making Hellgate doesn't make it Diablo 3. On a personal note Hellgate london looks pretty stupid, but that's just my opinion. Diablo 3 would kick Hellgate london's ass.

Serieus you make a good point, I agree with you a lot. The Diablo games were great, but you're right, they could have involved more strategy. Definitely an excellent point. (But I would really like to see an MMO Diablo- that's just me).

To everyone else complaining about my MMO suggestion though:I don't want a Diablo MMO like WoW (with slow grinding, leveling and all that stuff). I want a new type of MMO that involves fast paced combat and player skill rather than just a game about how much time you can put into it.

I've read the interview, been through that stage of hope. If you haven't noticed, that one quote is pretty much the only piece of solid evidence that we have at this point, and its been almost a year. And it can be interpreted in many ways

Nice to see that atleast some people think like me. Since we have the same guys working on the game with somewhat of a similar theme, you could call it an unofficial "Diablo 3".

But then again, you can never accurately predict the future. Blizzard may surprise us one of these days byannouncing a sequel.

Just because some of the same guys that made diablo are making Hellgate doesn't make it Diablo 3.

I'm not calling Guild Wars the next Diablo game, and its made by the same people. However, you can't avoid the fact that Hellgate London has its similarities.

Plenty of games feature Demons from Hell i.e. Doom.

And what research would that be, hmm? Ah yes, the fact that Blizzard north created Diablo and broke off from the Blizzard we now know and still love. While part of that original team did become part of Flagship which is behind Hellgate, that doesn't make it the next diablo. In fact, Blizzard Entertainment still owns all the rights to the Diablo franchise. The next time you decide to lash back with demands of research, do your own beforehand to prevent looking retarded.
