I have never played the Diablo series but a couple of my friends were begging me to download the beta and play "co-op" with them so I did. I gotta say...never before have I been so puzzled at how a game is so popular.

I loaded it up and thought it was cool. Characters and classes seemed interesting, good music, good atmosphere...and then once I actually got into the game I honestly started laughing. The graphics, the combat, the animations and the characters...are all so bad? I mean how is this a 2012 title being made by arguably one of the most successful and reputable PC developers out there? It blew me away at how into it some of my buddies were and how they were simply astonished at how I did not like the game.

My main problem is that the game is...barely a game. You left/right click to move/attack and that is all there is to it. I intentionally never even used a skill on my skill bar or bothered to equip any new loot and I was just spamming my mouse buttons and killing everything. Other than some somewhat impressive skill effects, how is this even in the least bit entertaining? My buddies were saying that the "fun is in the loot", but there was so much loot being thrown at me and so many drops that I was annoyed by constantly re-quipping and comparing my overloaded inventory.

I also fail to see how story or narrative is going to carry the game considering how WoWified and bland the atmosphere of the game is. I recall Diablo 2 looking far more inspired and horror esque than Diablo 3.

I agree completely, I have not played D1 or D2, so am not blinded by nostalgia, I found the game laughable for a 2012 title as well, no wonder it has been delayed so long it is a total terd.

That's such a popular misconception. The games graphics were indeed darker, but the world in Diablo 3 is just as dark atmospheric and content wise as Diablo 2 was. The game just has more colors.

i opted not to even be bothered to dl the beta. after watching some youtube vids, i see nothing special about the game to convince me that its worth my time and thats after watching a walkthrough that takes the game halfway to completion. i hear everything about loot this and that...but imo thats not enough to carry a game thats based solely on spam clicking. srry Diablo fans, but, pass.....

Actually you would be surprised. The game is FAR less challenging with friends because of how simply you kill everything on screen.

I didn't know simply playing a game means you have nsotalgia for it. That's piss-poor reasoning.

Game is fine. Don't know what you guys were expecting. Did you really expect the tutorial level of the game to be in-depth and challenging?

I was a massive fan of Diablo and Diablo 2 (been playing d2 on bnet since 2000, and as recently as a couple months ago), and I completely agree. I've been playing the d3 beta, and the combat and leveling system is completely dumbed down to the point that nothing matters at all. And yeah, I like the basic art direction, but the graphics and animations are extremely sub-par compared to what can (and should) be expected from a 2012 game, by blizzard. I think Starcraft 2 actually looks better. It's still a bit of fun, I'd say, and I'm interested enough in the story, and in the prospect of better loot and enemies later on, that I'll still play the hell out of it when it comes out. I did consider cancelling my preorder, though. I actually would cancel my preorder if I had been super excited about the monk. I don't know if anyone here has been on the D3 forums, but they are in an uproar (rightfully so) about how the animations for the monk are just completely retarded. Like, sloppy, unfinished game status.

My buddy reminded me that Torchlight was made by the same team that was behind Hellgate London, which was the team behind Diablo 1 and 2. So I'm definitely going to check that out, as well.

The only "amazing" graphical qualities you should see from Blizzard would be in their CGI. Everybody should know by now that Blizzard doesn't push graphical boundries on purpose.

Keep in mind TC, that you cannot change the difficulty in the beta. Increasing the difficulty should involve more strategy.

By contrast, things that posture as being overly complicated can grow as tedious and just as quickly if you aren't having any fun. From my experience at least. I am just looking forward to playing a nice relaxing round of Diablo 3 shortly!

Thankfully there are developers that have found a way to makes games both complicated and fun. Blizzard still has a long way to go in that department in my opinion.

EDIT: Actually, that's incredibly unfair of me to say. Their RTS games are plenty complicated. It's just everything they've done in the RPG genre I find to be a little too simplistic.

Easy games get boring fast. I'm having fun with StarCraft II for now, I'll wait and see if I'm going to pick up D3. The fact that I can't buy my Blizzard games on Steam pisses me off. I might just stop playing their games soon if they don't get with the program.

Trust me, it will get much deeper when you have access to the full game. The beta shows off very little of what Diablo will offer. You are capped at level 13 and certain types of items don't even drop. Wait till the full release comes out till you pass judgement.

This is what makes me lagh at this thread.

Its basically a tutorial in the beta. Diablo2 got much better after act 1 also. There will be ywa more spells, levels, difficulties,etc.. in the full game. This is just the very begining.

Cracks me up how peopel can pass full judgement on a game based on a demo or beta that shows such a small part of a huge game.

I agree - the beta seemed WAY too easy. But besides that, the skill trees don't even seem to make a difference. Do you ever actually have to DECIDE what skill you want? It just seemed like every few levels you got a new skill and you never choose to focus on 1 particular skill or attack style. I played the monk and the witch doctor. The witch doctor was "right click, left click, left, left, left, left" and the monk was "left, left, right, left, left, right"

i_am_the_slime

I think that's your problem, not the game's:P

Of course you have the ability to focus on specific builds. New skills and runes are not better, just different.

Even in the limited beta selection you can do that. For example, the Monk can be a healer, a very mobile crowd control character or a c1assic tank. Witch Doctor can be used for slowing down enemies, can focus on summoning or can jump straight in the action with offensive skills.

You beat the tutorial level on normal. Congratulations. The fact that you haven't played D2 makes the rest of your post invalid because you would know what to expect in the later acts. Also I can't believe people thing a complicated game makes it better. Some people's logic is just stupid.

This game is not even Diablo. For starters where's the adult content and atmosphere of the previoius two titles? No Butcher this time, instead we get a "skeleton king" . it plays and looks like a saturday morning cartoon. And yes you're right the graphics and animations are third rate, it's something which you expect from a web game or Xbox live arcade. No wonder they give this game away for free with a tweleve month WOW sub because that's exactly the type of game it is. It reminds me of a Free 2 play game.

I don't think you can shove your foot in your mouth any more. You should at least know what you're talking about before you try to bash something. That goes for everythiing in life...not just video games.

Disagree.. If anything especially the forest scenes, its much darker than the second game whcih looks like it was colored in by crayons.. Not to mention the amazing death effects on creatures like the zombies with blood and body parts flying every where..

hm? I never said anything about the art style. All I said is that Diablo 3's world is just as dark atmosphere wise (it feels creepy and desolate when it should) and content wise (slain bodies, tortured people, burning corpses). The only place Diablo 3 isn't as dark are the brighter graphics, which I like.

Hahaha the game looks like a friggin Anime, anyone who thinks this game looks dark or remotely anything like adult entertainment has serious problems. I can name dozens of problems with this game, from the Demon Hutners stupid Rapid fire which looks like he's firing a Howitzer from a crossbow. To the ridiculous and over-used physics. The bad animations that go across the board and infect almost every aspect of the game. And this is not even getting into the dialogue and the story which is also just as brain dead ( hilariously so). IE the Blacksmith murdering his wife and then calmly saying "Thanks I couldn't of done that without you". how the hell did Cain survive having a meteor land on his head anyway? haha Wtf is going on with this game it's completely childish.

The game is very dark, just look at the surroundings. The artstyle is lighter than Diablo 2, but the atmosphere and content is indeed dark. Kinda off topic, but I also love how immature peopel assume something has to be gorey(which diablo 3 is) have nudity, and laced with profanity to be considered "for adults." Are you really that insecure about your age/maturity?

[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="KHAndAnime"][QUOTE="SF_KiLLaMaN"] That's such a popular misconception. The games graphics were indeed darker, but the world in Diablo 3 is just as dark atmospheric and content wise as Diablo 2 was. The game just has more colors.

What goggles are you wearing? Diablo 3 looks like WoW. Blizzard is incapable of a different artstyle.

Disagree.. If anything especially the forest scenes, its much darker than the second game whcih looks like it was colored in by crayons.. Not to mention the amazing death effects on creatures like the zombies with blood and body parts flying every where..

I do love the ragdoll carnage, and I don't have an issue with how much "darkness" there is. The game looks like every other Blizzard game - unoriginal.

Put the games away and go draw some blood or something then, tough guy. Instead of whining about art styles of video games on the internet like a sissy.

"Unoriginal"...and yet every other developer on the planet tries to copy every game they make... I do love the ragdoll carnage, and I don't have an issue with how much "darkness" there is. The game looks like every other Blizzard game - unoriginal.

It isn't easy. Try Nightmare difficulty, you won't survive long. All the beta is is "normal"; there will be two levels higher.

What makes it unoriginal?

Hell what made Diablo 2's visuals original to begin with?
