nostalgia has a heavy hand in perceptions of games, that and there were not as many games out then so they stood out more due to limited contrast.
example diablo and diablo 2 were great, cause they were some of the first games like them,, now there have been countless games to use the same formula. (which in turn effects diablo) "you change/influence that in which you study"

I'm pretty sure I can count games that use Diablo's formula on one hand, and that's Torchlight for obvious reasons.
No game has ever used Diablo 2's formula. Not one. A few devs have tried, but failed miserably because they missed they didn't get why Diablo 2 was so successful.
lol sorry i meant used the same design to a degree, i mean seriously people actually think there is a genre called diablo-clone. of course not 1 game has taken the same exact formula for diablo 2, if it did, THAT WOULD MAKE IT DIABLO 2. lol come on. lol they (many games) take some of the same formula's (not all the same) and now since time has passed and so many have done it, it takes some of the "eliteness" of diablo 2 away. that being said diablo2 borrowed alot of the same formula from diablo 1.. period
im not bashing diablo 2 in anyway, i loved it and still do, its just people do not understand what time, and nostalgia do to art, including videogames.
