I've played Diablo II back in college (early 2000's). Demo played Torchlight and liked it. The only thing I just found out is that I can mod the resolution for Diablo II so it will actually look normal by today's standards. Just holding myself over until PSN is back.

There is a patch to allow Diablo II to use higher resolution than the default ones. This will however not really change the graphics of the game. But from personal experience, I would take Diablo II over Torchlight any day.

Depends then.... if you want better graphics or not? Torchlight has the better graphics, Diablo2 is a bit deeper and more adult kinda.

.. Diablo 2 is superior if your playing online.. And if your not playing online.. I wouldn't recommend either game.. Torchlight is fun and all, but it gets REAL boring playing by your self.. This genre imo was created with co-op play in mind.. I honestly think you shouldn't bother with it inless your playing online.

So, you gonna play solo? Torchlight for sure even though I haven't played it. Solo on Diablo is boring as hell. Online is where it's at.

Well, Torchlight is a Diablo 1 clone on steroids, and gets extremely repetitive once you go lower and lower into the dungeons.

I much prefer Diablo II, it felt far more epic.. the cinematics added to that, so it held my interest all the way, wile in regard to Torchlight, it bored me near the end were i just couldn't go on.

Diablo is especially better solo, online was ruined by boss grinders, you rarely find people that are in it for the fun not grind or gear.

The Diablo 2 res mod does nothing, windowed is better than that mod since it just zooms out, it's worse than 640x480 full screen.

If you can stand the dated graphics then go with Diablo 2, it's the best of the best, be it single or multiplayer (multiplayer is based entirely on luck tho, getting a good group), if you can't stand the graphics then get Torchlight, it's the best imo right after Sacred 1 (try the demo, you might like it, it's extremely rough around the edges but patches fixed almost everything) but it does get old fast and there isn't a lot of variety.

Torchlight it is... found out you can mod the camera (field of view) back a little so you can see more of the dungeon just like the diablo II mod. I know it sounds dumb but, that little bit changes games for me.

There are many mods for the game to also improve the visuals, and add a very balanced rooster of characters for you to choose from (each with their own unique skills).

I've played Torchlight with a mod adding 22 different characters and 30 unique pets.

Yeah, that's what kind of led me to Torchlight... not that there are not mods for Diablo II. It's just that I've played them six years ago. I do have a question though; if I download the game to my laptop (2005 Vaio) and it plays okay... can I then download it to my girlfriend's laptop (2010 Toshiba) because it's just a little smoother?

The people that created Diablo and made Diablo II also made Torchlight.

Coincidentaly I just finished Diablo 2 and LOD for the first time, Diablo 2 over torchlight anyday, Because then you've also got Diablo 3 to look forward to if you enjoy the story.

Yeah, here is a answer from the devs, from the FAQ section:

"We have provided each purchase with a key that is good for 10 activations – more than most users would ever need – because we don't want the system to be a burden on our customers. We'll happily increase the activation count if you run out. You can use them on any computers you want."

Diablo 2 is a more complete game by far. Torchlight is fun and hits a lot of high marks, but it's pretty shallow and there's not a whole lot there. For the $20 it was released for though it was a great deal. I'd personally say Diablo 2, followed by Titan Quest, then Torchlight.

What nonsense is this?! I consider Diablo one of the greatest games ever made across any platform and played it almost exclusively offline very enjoyable games played solo no way are they games that need to be played with other to enjoy. Now to answer TC question i would buy the diablo chest so you get all the games + expansions i personally enjoyed diablo 1 more then diablo 2 although diablo 2 has more content. Both games are far better then torchlight the only other game that competes with diablo imo is titan quest which you should also look into. Personally i enjoyed fate(which is made by the guy who founded runic games which made torchlight) more then torchlight. Doesn't mean torchlight is a bad game just don't view it so highly compared to other action rpgs on the pc.

Diablo II:

-Older

-Deeper

-5 classes (7 with expac)

-More skills per class and in general

-Longer

-Harder

-Bigger item system

-Option of multiplayer, even if you're not using it immediately

-There are quite a few HUGE mods out there, so don't let them fool you by saying there aren't

Torchlight:

-Newer

-Good design

-Better graphics

-More cartoon-esque design

-Blatant clone of Diablo II/III

-No Multiplayer whatsoever

-Much more shallow and repetitive
