I don't understand, what was wrong with the auction house?
RevanBITW
Did you play it? If so, you should know the answer to that question.

RevanBITW
Nothing. Some people delude themselves that the only way to get better loot is to remove the AH, but those things aren't at all connected. Some people somehow care how other players in this non-competitive game earn items. And then you have those with no self-control who simply can't stop using the AH and then are not satisfied with their own drops.
Well, if you ever planned to buy gold, now would be the time to do it.
I expect gold prices to skyrocket, as actually earning gold in D3 has never been that easy. Unless they also alter the gold drop rates to balance it out.

They are connected...not only did they let this fact slip a few times, but any person who has also played the console version can tell you the drop rates are RADICALLY different. If you anyone still believe the AH has nothing to do with D3's drop rates you are literally drinking the kool-aid.[QUOTE="Baranga"][QUOTE="RevanBITW"]

The existence of an AH does not automagically affect the drops. An AH and good drops can co-exist without affecting each other.
The console version branched out a long time ago and there are many differences, including different abilities and drop types. Correlation does not imply causation. The lack of an AH is not the primary reason for different loot. By the way, it was confirmed that Loot 2.0 is different from the console loot.
This is actually good news!
Now the single player lag needs to be addressed due to some BS fetching system.
I really hope the expansions pack makes it more along the lines of a Diablo game though. (and I am not even talking about the art style)

My main problem was the AH and shitty loot system. THey are doing a lot to fix that. My other problem would be the leveling, which with the new paragon mechanics sounds a lot better. And the story...well...lets just hope the expansions is better :P.

It's pretty obvious they balanced the drops against having the AH's available to all players...meaning it's more stingy in order to attempt to not flood it and/or make it too easy to gear up. That's exactly what Bashiok said before the thread was shut down and damage control went into effect, and that's exactly what players saw (well, the opposite) on the console versions without the existence of a AH.
Stop drinking the kool-aid...at this point it's kinda pathetic. Good-bye GAH/RMAH! And let's all laugh at the people who drank (and continue to drink) the Kool-aid :)

Yea, I haven't played it since it came out, but I do still have it. I might be interested in the expansion once it comes out, and I see how it is, before I buy.
Heres hoping to some improvements with it.

Not satisfied with our own drops is hardly the case... I have over 30,000 elite kills on my demon hunter and over 300 hours played on it... In all that time I had about ~30ish legendaries drop... NONE, I repeat, NONE of them were even viable for my class, let alone useful in any respect for other classes... And yellows... After about 200 hours I just stopped picking them up... None were ever useful in any way, shape, or form... ALL of the gear I am wearing is from the AH for a few million gold.
Believe me, if I could play (successfully) with my own drops... I would... Look at the D3 forums... People have competitions to see who can progress and farm the highest MP levels with found loot... It is a challenge and very difficult (in terms of farming high MP, not in terms of simply playing the game) to make any progress in Diablo 3 with your own found loot...
This is awesome news! D3 GAH/RMAH was a total swindler's game, where the rich can afford to just upgrade gear with the punch of a credit card, all the while the sellers see the convenience in that and can hyper-inflate the items that would appeal to those impulse buyers. There was such a huge discrepancy in item tier values (bad, good, really good, awesome). There was no balance in this game because of the auction house, where a game which relies heavily on grinding and actually playing the game could just sit heavily on the auction house, buy an item, mark up the item, etc... I personally loved the barter system in D2, b/c items were more consistent as far as drop stat tiers and naturally match the worth of one item in comparison to another item. I loved the trade system. Now we can get back to more in-game play instead of forced to having the work the AH the majority of the time.TruDawg32
I hope they add some easy way to have trades done. like some in game trading lobbies or something. like a big field where you can trade haha. DII but more organized :P. I was a master at trading in DII. With that said, I am just happy to see the AH gone, loot revamped, and so much more. I honestly don't see how I could not enjoy the game for many more hours and possibly much more than that. Here's to hoping!

Exactly. you don't use the stuff you find. you sell it for tiny amounts of gold and grind gold and then buy good gear. it was boring as hell. I welcome this and every other change they have mentioned thus far!
Still no fix for the low replay value/not enough levels/missions.
Worst part of d3 for me personally was goign threw the game over and over again with it being as short as it was. I think if it had twice as many missions/areas it would have been alot better, especially its replay value.

they are adding not only a new act, character, skills, loot, loot system and so on, but also new challenges, and other things to add to the replayability and randomization. Just keep your eyes open for upcoming news.

Please explain what is wrong with these statements:
1. The introduction of an auction house does not automatically mean that the loot will be balanced around it.
2. Assuming the loot is currently balanced around the AH, it is possible to fix it with Loot 2.0 while also keeping the AH online.

Your initial statement is that they aren't at all connected...when very clearly they are. To the idea that drop rates could be better if Blizzard wanted them while still retaining the AH? Sure, they probably could. Regardless, my comments were more addressing the idea that the AH had no effect on the game, when certainly it did.[QUOTE="kozzy1234"]

Yes I know this, I am just saying, for me personally it was more the lack of content and areas that hurt the game for me and not so much the auction house.
I am very interested in the expansion though as Blizzard does pretty awesome expansions (loved Diablo2's expansion and many more). It just felt to me like there was not nearly enough areas/missions, felt half asses in that department (like Dragon Age 2 was with its recycled areas, gave me the same feeling of not enough).
If the expansion has a good chunk of content (levels/missions,etc..) I will definatly jump back into D3.

I hear ya. DII was about the same as DIII before an expansion. I think DIII will add a bit more gameplay content in the expansion than DII did, but less characters and item features. so its a give/take. But then again what do I know? They still are testing, adding, taking things out, and so on. we will know better soon.

Diablo 3 has static maps with a couple of random elements. Diablo 2 and most of this genre has random maps with a couple of static elements.
The caves are the worst - just big boring ovals. I don't understand why this happened.
Now they promise truly random dungeons, and they added random cosmetic aspects too. I especially liked an image of a dungeon built out of cathedral tiles, but hellish and with neon blue skeletons. These loot runs may even end up in the pre-expansion patch, next to all the rule changes.
Removing Potion cool downs would be a good start. This is actually good news!
Now the single player lag needs to be addressed due to some BS fetching system.
I really hope the expansions pack makes it more along the lines of a Diablo game though. (and I am not even talking about the art style)

I am excited to see how they improve drops to compensate for this. It took players over a thousand hours to gear a character for MP10 with the auction house. Without the auction house it would take an entire lifetime to gear up. I hope they make it so you can get upgrades in a timely fashion. They don't have to be huge, massive upgrades, just an item with 1% more damage or survivability so that over time you are guaranteed to eventually get good enough gear for MP10.

That's what the dropping health orbs are for. Also, stack life on hit! :P
Seriously though, I wasn't a fan of the potion cooldown at first, but I don't really mind it now. I should be a bit shorter though. I'm thinking 10 seconds.
Giant step backwards for the game... the whiners got their way.
How is the AH worse than dealing with trade rooms and random in-game trading? I agree AH became mandatory but so will be trading... only now it will be 10x more of a pain in the neck.

There was absolutely no problem with the Auction houses. Either of them. Except that they let you buy gold on the RMAH. THAT completely destroyed the game economy.

Yah, I was torn about the AH.
I want to meet the guy who truly thought trade games were fun, but getting gear from the AH instead of finding it did seem to be less fun. It's a hard balance IMO.

D2 was the same. Not sure why you'd expect differently. A lot of people would argue D2 had endless replayability.
Agreed. The data fetching system is broken. Because I really love the frequent stuttering. This is actually good news!

Gold AH was a fantastic thing. RMAH was shitty only because of how many exploits it caused, including the crash of the economy. I don't want to have to go to D2JSP or some other website to get trading done.

The length was pretty damn terrible. My main complaint was always the lack of content. Thankfully they're adding over 100 side missions with the new act and in the previous acts. Hope they get more randomization with map layouts too.

It's pathetic you really still believe your own bullshit. Console players see a difference because of a redesigned loot system that was done by the console team just for the consoles. We're getting a different system in the future.
