Providing this does not affect the quality or release date of Diablo III for the PC then I am very happy for console gamers, great games should be enjoyed by everyone.
We keep hearing this... And its not gonna happen.
If Blizzard intended to bring Diablo 3 to consoles, it would have announced it along with its worlwide release. Its not like they lack resources or the talent to create multiplatform development.
You do realize there hasn't been a release date set yet right? So technically NOTHING has been announced other than Diablo 3 is being developed for PC. Anything beyond that is unknownWouldn't be the first time... http://www.gamespot.com/ps/rpg/diablo/index.htmlRenevent42
This.
It's not even the only Blizzard game to go on consoles.
People need to remember that until Diablo 2 almost EVERY Blizzard game was on consoles; Starcraft, Warcraft 2, The Lost Vikings(2 of them), Blackthorne, The Death And Return Of Superman, etc etc
The only PC exclusives they have made are Warcraft, Warcraft 3, World of Warcraft, Diablo 2 and Starcraft 2.
I know this won't be the first game that Blizzard has released on console, I know Diablo was on the PSOne, I know they had Lost Vikings and Blackthorne. If they keep pushing the release back just so they have time to port it to console, I think that's just asinine. It just makes me lose respect for Blizzard, that's all.
Well there's your problem right there...that's an assumption on your part. Nowhere is it said or even suggested that the console port is holding up the PC release, or that they will even be released at the same time.I know this won't be the first game that Blizzard has released on console, I know Diablo was on the PSOne, I know they had Lost Vikings and Blackthorne. That has no bearing on what i've said. If Blizzard intended to make Diablo 3 for consoles, they would've announced it at or around the same time as the initial unveiling. Its not like they are a small studio that are developing for one platform while looking to find talent and certifications for another system.
This sucks for PC gaming in only 1 way. We (eventually 'cause it ain't coming to consoles anytime soon, maybe end of 2012 or 2013?) are losing a great exclusive.
Exclusives matter, unfortunately, to the masses. You know, the people we, as PC gamers want to be more aware of PC gaming, and to be drawn to it. Well, the masses need somethign to fixate on, otherwise they'll put the blinders on and keep on riding the mainstream console wave.
Ofcourse, the flip side is that EVERY developer is going multi-plat because as a business you just can't ignore another platform waiting to give you money for your product. It's just as stupid, really, from a purely business angle (and all other things being equal, like funding, specific game requirements) to put a game just on consoles (or on a particular console) as it is to JUST put it on the PC.
UNLESS there's some giant entitiy willing to fork over tons for money for the priviledge.
The consoles have that. Their parent companies spend BILLIONS of dollars in marketing, and in getting devs to create "exclusive content" for them. The PC doesn't have that.
In the end the console gamers win because they get a great, established, polished game, and PC gamers lose because, although the first iteration of Diablo on consoles won't affect the PC version, many other games DO suffer from being dumbed down either on a technologicla or a gameplay level, or (horror) both.
Maybe we need someone to do the same for PC's. I don't know why the hardware and software companies that live off of PC gaming don't do this. They should have ways of helping promote PC games and PC gmaing culture. But they don't bother. Boggles the mind.
Their latest attempt at promoting PC gaming has been the PC Gaming Alliance. Which has done precisely tow things: Jack and ****.

They have a couple of job listings for a console Diablo III on their site.
I bet the game will be released this year - it's the company's 20th anniversary and Diablo's 15th.
I don't think it has delayed the release or will delay it. I think Diablo 3 is still primarily PC until release. At that point sure they will be porting it to console. The way Blizzard works the port will probably take a long time as well (1+ year). I don't mind console players in my game. Easy players to beat up in the arena. :)
PC has plenty of exclusives. So thats why they been using so long time, Couldent we PC gamer ever get 1 exclusive besides wow wich i consider biggest crap in exsistent? :(( Damn u console, i do own a console myself...

Why instantly accuse Activision? Here's a little fact for you, Blizzard has made FAR more multiplatform games than PC exclusives. And that was BEFORE the Activision Merger.[QUOTE="Farkeman"]

Also, Blizzard is a big developer, and Blizzard is a PC developer, the types of games they make work and sell best on PC, and always will, as such PC will always be their lead SKU and so wont be dumbed down if a console version of a game is made.
As for editors and mod tools? Blizzard has never released those for a Diablo game, and said a couple of years back Diablo 3 won't either. This has nothing to do with console development however, since Diablo 2 had no mod tools and it wasn't on consoles...

Diablo 2 does not have mod tools and mods don't won't on battlenet either. Also Activision does not own Blizzard and has no power over them as far as I know.
You are correct, part of the merger agreement was that Blizzard would remain independently run. A lot of people forget this however.Diablo 2 does not have mod tools and mods don't won't on battlenet either. Also Activision does not own Blizzard and has no power over them as far as I know.

Okay, first of all, learn how to use the enter key. Second of all, everything you just said is wrong and just nonsense that paranoid gamers spread around. Part of the merger agreement was that Blizzard retained its autonomy and corporate leadership, go look it up rather than believing what you read by paranoid trolls on forums. Also, some of your logic makes NO SENSE. The Merger only occured in 2008, why on earth would a less than 3 year old merger be the reason we had to wait TEN years for SC2? You say because Vivendi were "moving whole corporation to more casual market" but how does that affect Blizzard? Blizzard has never made any of these "Casual Market" games. Are you claiming, that Vivendi, they started working on CoD games with Activision (apparently 7 years before they even merged with activision according to your logic), instructed Blizzard to stop making games? Do you REALISE how silly that is?Diablo 2 does not have mod tools and mods don't won't on battlenet either. Also Activision does not own Blizzard and has no power over them as far as I know.

Maybe the rumors of a 2012 release date if for the consoles and PC release is hopefully this year? *crosses fingers*
I started playing Blizzard games with Starcraft on 64. So, I could at least hope this brings people more towards PC gaming and creates a bigger community.
Let's run it on our pc's, and laugh at our shameful console playing counterparts and their inferior version!

Pretty much how I see it as well.
i'm glad there are still pc gamers today who aren't ignorant elitist that look down our console brothers. kudos to you:)its time to stop worrying, we dont game on pc for random exclusive games. Its for the overall experience you just cant get on consoles.

most of those games are on console, a few are only on console as well. World of warcraft expansions arent on console also obviously.Yes, that's what I'm saying, because Blizzard have proved before that console development doesn't impact their PC development.@Kieranb2000
im too tired to argue today , but Kieranb2000 , you are saying Diablo 3 multiplatform = Diablo 3 pc exclusive (from pc point of view) ?
you have to be extremly naive to believe that ...Farkeman
Or are you claiming that the first Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft 2 were all bad, dumbed down, consolized games? Because I'm sure quite a few people on these forums would burn you alive for saying that.
