I havent played it my self, I used to enjoy Diablo 2 inmensely (years back), I tried to play it the other day do, and... well after a little bit I just got over it, i wished they could release a patch to improve the graphics and the gameplay... after playing WoW they could update to have the same button configuration for spells and interface, and yet keeping the fuming crazy and full on Action that WoW dosent have... (where all spells are timed and spells are auto targered... so boring!)
You have a friend that has it? you could maybe find it really cheap at a second hand show or ebay. If you can find Diablo2 I think Id recomended over the first one. The story can be slighly interesting... but... its not a great great thing, after all, its based upon killing the "devil" in the end, and I heard the first Diablo its just one huge cavern that goes down in lvls and that is it. In Diablo 2 there is much more variety, 5 Lands (with the expansion) that covers some Creepy Green lands, the Desern, the Jungle, Hell, and snowy mountains, all with very interesting temples and final bosses... I dont know... when I think about it I always want to play it, but it puts me off with the few things, I think I shall just wait for diablo 3
Diablo and Diablo 2 are exactly like WoW in the sense that they serve utterly no point in life other than entertaining you. The achievement you get is utterly artificial and will not alter your life in any way. If your barbarian acquires that Axe with +2 smiting, good for you just don't believe it will make your willy any bigger.
Diablo isn't fun, the gameplay is so silly its bordering unimaginative, the graphics are horrible...but nothing matters if you like gear, because that alone will drive you to spend countless hours on it. Much like WoW really. You look past its marketing coat, the core is empty with no innovation. Still, you will like it if you enjoy loot.
its fun, just don't be the warrior he gets boring by the last stage. mage and rogue is where its at!

Can you honestly say that any other game on the market has another purpose and has truly changed your life?
But yeah, its a good game thats a little past its time imo (although it is still fairly challenging); particularly with D3 showing up some time in the next couple of years. If you enjoy hack 'n' slash rpgs then Diablo two is still the king of the genre and as others have said loot plays a fairly large part.
EDIT: if you do get Diablo get ready to kill your mouse (and possibly your clicking finger).
Get Progress Quest instead. It has about as much depth as either of the Diablo games and it's free.-wildflower-that's bs and so is your sig
