Just curious as to when the Diablo books fit in the canon in respect to the games. I want to go through the whole Diablo canon before I start D3, so what order roughly should I play/read them in? I know there is debate as to whether most of the books are canon at all, but I'd like to read them anyway. Also if your planning on telling me that I'm wasting my time as D3 sucks or has a weak storyline, please don't respond. I'm assuming the Sin War stories should be where I should start, but I'm not sure from there. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Well, this is the order:

The Sin War: Birthright

TheSin War: Scales of the Serpent

The Sin War: The Veiled Prophet
Demonsbane
The Black Road
Legacy of Blood
The Kingdom of Shadow
Moon of the Spider

But you should just read them as they are, since they're written by multiple authors and the style changes, it might seem like a good idea to read them chronologically, but it's pretty bad that way (same with Warcraft, especially Warcraft).

Just get the Diablo Archive, Sin War Archive and Moon of the Spider, also, especially for Diablo 3, you should read the Book of Cain and The Order.

Thank you very much, that helped a lot, couple more questions though.

1. How do the Diablo 3 books fit in as you mentioned Book of Cain and The Order (and soon to be Sword of Justice)? Do they take place before, during, or maybe after D3?

2. The books already covered, where do they fit in as opposed to Diablo 1 and 2? (Ex. Do the Kingdom of Shadow, Legacy of Blood, and Moon of The Spider occur before or after Diablo 1)

3. Where do the comics fit in? (Both the 2001 series and the newer series)

I hope none of them are written by the people who did the writing for Diablo 3. That's probably the worst writing I've seen in a video game in the past decade.

1. Book of Cain is like a journal made by Cain, it's mostly just more lore in general. The Order is in general right before Diablo 3. 2. First 4 are before, 5 is Diablo 1, 6 and 7 Diablo 2, 8 is after. 3. No idea, never read any of them.
