This gap of time between announcement of the partial game and information pending has gotten me thinking about what the other classes could possibly be. Considering the past and seeing that on-line co-op will play a big role in the newest installment of the Diablo series, I made the following predictions:

Cleric/Holy Warrior type: I know we've all seen the paladin and his spell/high defense combat abilities. But we haven't seen a holy character type with conflagrations and powerful healing spells and all those other fancy tricks we've seen in other D&D type games. With co-op play getting bigger, parties are going to need more than a lame healing aura to get through the roughest patches of the game. A cleric type who casts giant AoE anti demon/undead spells and direct healing would be a great addition to the game. Auras would also be neat but I don't see the paladin making a full comeback to the Third.

Elementalist/Mage type: Its hard to imagine any fantasy RPG hack-n-slash without a mage type. The sorceress was cute, but what other games like WoW, Guild Wars, and Titan Quest have brought to the table as far as spells go make her look sad and lonely with her firebolts and static shock. This game is meaner and there needs to be a meaner mage to counter that. Going off the game-play trailer, large amounts of enemies are going to be found almost regularly so 80% screen size spells will probably be abundant. There have been the usual Fire/Ice/Electric trees in the past but I see something coming up that will go past that. Maybe a true four elements (Fire, Air, Earth, Water) all encompassing and incorporated mage will come flying in, breathing fire, through up ice barriers, and move mountains.

Rogue/Range type: I could only assume since the rogue was quasi split into Amazon and Assassin from the First to the Second that he/she would be rejoined in the Third to reform into a dual wielding, bow master that can pick off enemies from afar or get up close using the same ol' dirty tricks and traps. Seeing as how my list so far plus the two known classes sort of leaves out the martial range class, this would be a nice addition for those folks who feel more comfortable with a bow/crossbow/javelin.

I don't expect this list to be an absolute. I just go nuts thinking about topics like these all day and maybe this post could get the ball rolling on the discussion. I'd like to hear other people's ideas on the other possible classes or maybe revisions of the ones I posted here.

In addition, I feel that the introduction of only 5 characters in the Third leaves the game wide open for an expansion pack in the following holiday season. Since there were 7 total in the Second + expansion, it would only make sense to go forward, not backward. Even if they came back with the same characters, just revised, I'd be pleased. Hope to hear from everyone.

I just saw the thread posted 10 hours ago...I'm not trying to be a stooge. Atleast I expanded a little on what was said.
