CS actually does a lot better then SOC, like upgrades, Artifacts, money system, the only real issue with CS were bugs and Faction wars, when both get fixed it is still better then most FPS today, like the dissappointment that was FC2. If they tone down Faction Wars in the next patch it will be gravy. doyousmellthatBut it's lacking many of the things Oblivion Lost has. And GSC didn't learn from their mistakes.

Nah, I find things like freeplay pointless, emissions also really a pointless feature. The only thing i found good in OL was the missing creatures. GSC had management issues that caused a buggy game to get released to soon, yes, for that it was a dissappointment. Keep in Mind, Mods loke OL were only played by a small hardcore minority, GSC has to make a game that appeals to a wider audience.

I absolutely loved Shadow of Chernobyl (especially with Oblivion Lost), but for some reason I couldn't get into Clear Sky. I dunno... I just liked being alone much more, SoC has way better atmosphere. Also the shooting is much better in SoC. Maybe I'll give Clear Sky another chance after more patches show up and it gets a overhaul mod similar to Oblivion Lost.
Clear Sky was my most anticipated game of the year. STALKER SoC is one of my top favorite games of all time. I got maybe 1/3 of the way into CS and started losing interest in it. It doesn't seem quite as free-form as SoC, which is what I loved.
I also hate the day/night cycle. I know a lot of people loved this in the Oblivion Lost mod, but if I want to play games in the dark, I can go kick a ball around out in the yard.
I think both games give a different perspective on the series. Personally I loved the original stalker, and im really enjoying clear sky as well. I really like the money system, faction wars are cool and everythging seems tuned up. Of course someone mentioned a more alone feeling in SoC, which is cool. I know what you mean when you said that absence was gone in clear sky, but i think clear sky was trying to accomplish a slightly different feal. Anyway, these are definatly my favorite FPSs so far, plus here are some clear sky pics
I also think the lighting is some of the most impressive lighting in any game. Im gonna say it, but I think this game is aesthetically better looking than crysis (if i spelled that right). People are gonna complain about the textures, or it looks to gritty or whatever, but when you actually play it and interact, especially with the lighting, you just want to sit there and look around and take in the world around you.
I couldn't get into it to be honest. It was badly scripted, buggy, and rushed. I would be better off replaying the first Stalker.
EDIT: I also wanted to add it's probably the best looking game out. I've played Warhead - but Clear Sky in DX10 with max settings is amazing. It's rough around the edges, but it's something to expect out of next-generation console.
Well I just started CS and so far from just playing the swamps I think there are some things that are great about the game, but the whole faction war just seems to make the feel of the game different from the original. As someone mentioned you do feel less alone but it also changes the pacing. As soon as I got to the swamp I started to receive annoying radio pleas for help that made me rush from location to location, and once they were under control I saw much less reason to go back and explore the area but felt the need to continue to the next objective. What I really want to do in a Stalker game is go on my on pace and explore the area, not fight from objective to objective.
The scripted horror moment with the bloodsucker also felt cheesy, it felt much more atmospheric to simply hear the noises and wonder what they were.
I liked CS better, for its mechanics, SoC better for its atmosphere.
The things I really liked in CS was the faction war aspect, that it is possible to make an entire area peaceful.
Also It was nice that money could be spent this time around.
But it just felt too crowded in CS :( and the tention was gone from the get go.
I think I like both games the same, no one better overall then the other. And compared to other shooters out there, I REALLY enjoyed the gun combat.

I agree about the shooting as well... I felt like I was so weak in this for way too long...

I don't know where you get that fact about OL, because most people who talk about the game on these forums uses OL.
