I was on the fence about getting need for speed. Didn't feel like paying full price after the PC release was delayed for so long. And I wasn't sure about Alway Online, after the fiasco with SimCity and my bad experience with Diablo III.

But I was in for a good racer so I went along and got it anyway... And boy, I have to say, this has to be one of the best racing games I've ever played. It's like the Need For Speed Underground 3 that never was.

The driving is a ton of fun. The customization is very deep. And I really dig the music they put into this game. It's a lot of trap, drum & bass, house, electro, dance, ... All the genres I like hearing when I'm speeding at 200 miles per hour. There is also some rock to a lesser extent, not really the music for a racing game imo, but all the music I heard so far is great.

Oh, and did I forget to mention this game looks absolutely fantastic ?

It seems really well optimized. It's a great PC version. And the Alway Online so far... I haven't had a single problem with it, and it's... kinda cool to see other racers on the map.

So how about you guys ? Did any of you get this game ? And what do you think of it ?

Yeah I was entertaining the idea; it's been a while since I've purchased a racing game, and most of the games in that genre of late have been leaning more towards the sim side than the casual side. I appreciate racings sims, but I favor more casual (and more immediately gratifying) racing games.

Is it open world? I haven't been following the game at all really.

@mrbojangles25:

Yeah, there have been a lot of sims lately. And though I always like the effort of learning each car, I also like to sit back and just race. Which this game is more like. But there is a lot of customization to the tuning in this game. So it really let's you go deep in visual and performance tuning. But it still remains a more casual racer.

The drifting in this game is really easy, and I normally have a lot of effort pulling off successful drifts. So here it's definitely more casual.

The game takes place in a pretty big open world. There is also a weather system and some sort of day/night cycle. But having said that, it does always remain night in this game giving it that NFS Underground feel as well. It does become morning at times, but then morning is over in a few minutes and then it's night again, it's pretty funny :P

I may pick it up at some point for cheap. I like playing The Crew: Wild Run because of the variety in the environments. How is the city in NFS? Is it varied enough?

@BassMan:I really liked playing The Crew for its variety in the world and the size of it. But I kind of got tired of it after a while. A lot of good cars seemed to be way out of my reach. So I ended up driving the same car for very long. While in NFS I already have two somewhat tuned cars in a span of 4-5 or so hours.

The City seems pretty varied. There is a mountain sides with a lot of corners to drift, there is the big city which can look wonderful at times, especially when you are driving towards the city, there is a industrial area. It seems pretty varied, but only time will tell if it stays fresh :)

I get your Underground comment. But does it live up to the legendary Most Wanted 2005 which was the pinnacle of the series.

By the way which resolution do you play in?

I've been thinking of getting it but I'll probably wait a month until it's cheaper on Kinguin or g2a.

So you judge a game based on if it's online or offline?

Do you judge books based on hardcover or softcover too?

@FelipeInside: What a dumb comparison, I'm not even going to bother addressing it, a game that is always online means I only get to play if the devs allows it, even if I pay for it.

Most offline games have online activation anyway. So if the devs wanted, they could take down the online activator and you wouldn't be able to play the game.

I was thinking of getting this game in addition to FIFA 16. Is it a good one?

@R4gn4r0k I think is pretty underrated. Good soundtrack. They also have a GREAT selection of cars, not by quantity, but quality ( I mean they have Diablos and Supras yo!!). There are some inherent flaws found in the game like the map and tracks have very sharp angles so you when you crash it can be devastating to your pace. The mods part list is kind of small. Weak pvp races which is weird considering that is always online, but felt very much like offline game besides the randoms whizzing by you. I could be VERY wrong about this, since I haven't played the x1 edition since December. I also believe that they just introduced manual gear change into the game and some other improvements since.

^I'd say no. It doesn't. I think is arguably the best since Carbon, but it still isn't as good as them. Than again alot of garbage nfs came out between the last 10 years.

Probably the fav song in this.

I got it for the PS4 because I couldn't wait for the PC version, the underground series of Need for Speed is like crack to me.

I am tempted to get the PC version just so I can play the game at 21:9.
