So about 2 years ago now i bought my pc and i was in a hurry so i just let them install the RAM and the guy said hed give me two 1 gig sticks of kingston, today i pop open my case and its 4 sticks of 512 mb? have i been gyped or does it not matter?

Performance should be the same, the only downside is that you have 4 dimms filled instead of just 2.

if you got DDR OR DDR2 it's ok, the only thing is that you don't have slots available.

DDR OR DDR2 memory work in pairs if you want the memory to work in dual channel.

i wonder what the price difference between a 512mb and 1gb stick was back then though. Id say you got gyped because you probably paid for the 1gb sticks which were much more expensive

there are pros and cons:

pros:

4 dimms in dual channel will run a bit faster then just 2 sticks

probably a bit cheaper at the time

cons:

takes up all rams slots

YOU BOUGHT IT AT BESTBUY...
