I have just bought an i7 2700k with gigabyte z68ap-d3 mobo

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-364-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990

but now I think I've bought the wrong board and should have bought something a little more expensive around the £110 mark like the Asus P8P series. Do you think this cheaper board will slow my i7 2700k down or will it make little difference.

** edit sorry i did add that link in properly but the forum wouldn't accept it.

Wow, it is a pretty turd motherboard to be pairing with a 2700K. It won't slow it down, but it probably won't be great for overclocking.

I agree with C_Rule, that is the right board but it wont do you much justice when you come to overclocking.

Should have went with a 2600k(if you realy need hyperthreading) and get a better board

i won't be overclocking. you think I should get slightly better model? I just thought £40 extra wouldn't make a difference, I know it seems a ittle odd paying for top processor then buying a cheaper board but it's prob better than buying a cheap processor and a better board. With a geforce 570 I didn't think it would make any difference.. but now I have second thoughts.

It doesn't even support SLI, so you can forget about adding another 570, later on. And no, spending so much on a CPU and neglecting the motherboard isn't the best option. I dunno what you're using the PC for, but considering the GPU, it's fair to say a bit of gaming will be done on this. You would be much better off getting a 2500K and putting more money towards a board that will get you a high stable overclock on the 2500K.

just looked at the review on overclockers and they say it's not much different to the more expensive mobos and some cases beats them so I'm pretty happy with it. http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/gigabyte_z68ap-d3_review/11
