I understand people told me to just build my own PC it's cheaper and such, but in the end I decided to just buy a pre built one from AlienWare. So here are the specs.

Intel Core i7 930 QC (2.8GHz, 8MB Cache)

6GB Triple Channel 1600MHz DDR3, 3X2GB RAM

Single ATI Radeon HD 5970, 2GB GDDR5

300GB - SATA-II, 3Gb/s, 10k RPM, 16MB Cache HDD

Liquid Cooling and an 875 Watt power supply.

So i paid $2,200 for it. Is this a reasonable amount? if not why not.

I reckon they made at least a $300 profit off that. You should have gone to Falcon Northwest and got this built for you: NOTE: The Configurator even tells you what isn't compatible, etc. It Even has a better CPU: PSU: 1000W Motherboard: Rampage III Extreme Processor: i7 950 @ 3.06GHz Liquid Cooling 6GB RAM 5970 2GB HDD: 500GB -7200RPM -3GB/s 24x DVD Writer Windows 7 Home Premium 3 Year Warranty. Its a better build for $2634, Then again, Even Falcon NW have to make a profit, otherwise its not viable. Building a PC is ALWAYS the cheapest option if you know what your doing and what parts to use/buy. The reason this build is more expensive is the better CPU, Bigger Hard Drive, Bigger PSU, The CPU also is at a higher clock, This CPU ISN'T OC'ed.

thanks for the suggestion. I never built my own PC so I'm afraid i'll mess it up, and if i do mess it up I have no real life friends to ask cause they don't know about computers. Do you think my specs are good?

Even though i think you were overcharged that PC Is good to run all games on High settings, But next time you want a PC Ready-Made go to Falcon NW and maybe ask around on here for what the best combo for you will be.

No, you got ripped off. You could have built this. It's better in every way.

edit: and I have no idea why there's a 512MB of stick of DDR400 in addition to the 6gb kit, I didn't add it.

Thats actually not to bad for an alienware. It is still a rip off, but not as much as alienwares usually are.

Its good for a prebuilt. You could have gotten way better if you had built yourself (Which is very easy, like easier than Lego), but meh, You have an amazing computer now.

Really? A 5970+Ci7 system strikes me as being rather hard to build on a $1.1K budget.

My system cost about the same as your's OP. Notice, however, that I have a huge SSD, a 1TB HDD, a 1200w name brand PSU (which was overkill and rather pointless unless I make one of the large upgrades I was planning on when I bought it), and name brand RAM (the reason I keep mentioning name brand is that IIRC Alienware uses cheap off-brand RAM and PSUs). I'd imagine my case is also a lot larger than your's and has better airflow as well. If I made my rig closer to your specs, I would have saved about $550 just on the PSU and SSD alone.

That should give you an idea of how much you overpaid by using Alienware. However, that's par for the course with pre-builts.

I could build a gaming PC that could rape mankind with that budget. It's not reasonable but it's your money. :D I'm not going to tell you what to do with it! Next time, swing by PC Hardware first if you have any questions or concerns. We'd be glad to help, but not tell you want to do or buy. :D
