having 10 million + subscribers for 1 game leads me to believe if wow did not exist, there could potentially have been more games developed and released due to a larger playerbase looking for new games to play.

what do you guys think?

absolutely true, but the PC is not dead. In fact games like the sims and world of warcraft are very much keeping it well alive, just taking sales from other areas of the market.

It has more high quality games than any individual consoles ( infact in some areas more than them combined ) and the pattern continues so how is it being killed exactly?

I wouldnt say it killed the PC. It just created a stereo-type about PC gamers that makes less people want to play PC games.

Just to point something out, WoW accounts for barely 60% of the MMO market. Although it's huge, it's stupid to point the finger at WoW alone. With all the upcoming MMOs, WoW may well hold barely 40% of the MMO market two years from now, and WoW will hopefully stop being a synonym for MMORPG.

Anyway, yes MMO games take players off the market permanently (at least for a time), but no MMOs have neither killed nor significantly reduced the PC games market - most notably because the PC games market is nowehre near dead.

Ten million may sound like a lot, but there are a few hundred million PC gamers worldwide. Combine all the 360s, PS3s and Wiis in householdes, then double it. Then add all the Gamecube, Xbox and PS2 owners in. There are still more PC gamers.

PC Gaming is on life support, and WoW is the machine keeping it alive. If it dies, then people will stop and look around at the releases for PC, and decide to go to consoles. I still split my purchases between my 360 and my PC, but it's hard since there's so few games that actually work better on PCs.

I don't like WoW or Sims2 and yes I have tried both, but hey we all have different taste.

But I much rather play Guild Wars (no pay to play), Crysis, COD4, The Witcher, King's Bounty: The Legend

On my Xbox 360, I'm playing Ninja GaidenII and Halo3

On my PS3, I'm playing Persona 3, Mana Khemia, and Metal Gear Solid

So there is definately better games to be playing besides an MMO such as WoW.

Yes of course. WoW and all the MMOs out there are killing PC gaming. They are just devilish games that only exist to take your soul and take you on a long trip to hell. They tear families, friends and lovers apart, filling all their souls with anguish whenever gamers try to go away for a walk or whenever they have a 'common and natural' conversation with anyone outside the MMO world, which further takes away all their souls and money, and making them adore false gods in order to keep playing.

Just to make myself clear. No, they don't. PC gaming has been happily dying since... forever. Oh, and don't forget to blame pirates too. Sick bastards they are.

Lol no... WoW brought 11 million PC gamers together. If anything, they brought new PC gamers to the market.

The availability of pirated games are the problem. Also, the console market got really big in the last 10 years.

At least we have MMORPGs!

I'm guessing you are either really young or english isn't your first language. But anyways the PS3 is a great investment, but a PC to me is an investment that keeps on giving.

In my opinion WOW reduced game sells on all of the systems. There has been many times I walk in to a store, look at the PC games, pick one up, walk to the register, and then say... ehhhh, I have WOW, pay for it monthly, do I really need to spend money on another game. That actually happened to me last night. I walked in Best Buy, picked up Crysis Warhead, and then said, eh, when I play PC games, it's always WOW. I did stop playing WOW for about a year, but during that time I didn't play any PC games, then I recently stopped for a few months because of Crysis. Now I'm either playing Rock Band, Madden 09 or WOW, so I always talk myself in to not buying another game. It's a sickness! And it's not only me, alot of WOW junky friends are the same way. I do believe WOW is a great game, but it is DEF killing game sales.

Completely true. But, if Blizzard didn't introduce WoW, then WAR would just take its place...in my opinion that is.

I think the larger issue for me is that Blizzard doesn't do enough to promote the PC as a gaming platform. They're in the perfect position to lobby for our platform on all fronts--they have the money, the power, and 11 million PC gamers to back their claims--but remain silent except for announcements about the next ZOMGGWTFBBQPWN! WoW expansion.

It's irresponsible and short-sighted.

Never thought about it that way before, but it makes complete sense and I agree with you. I can't really blame Blizzard though, since if I had the opportunity to rake in about $150 million a month from one title, I sure as hell would.
