I currently have a very old receiver, its a Realistic STA-84, my mom had it when she was 20 I believe, 30 years ago lol. Im looking to buy a new one, and was wondering how big of a difference the sound quality is, my current receiver just plugs into the TV's headphone jack. Is the sound quality difference comparable to say a PC with a soundcard over on board? Im looking at a Toshiba RXV 565 at a local store, which is on sale for 399.99 down from 549.99 and its there last in stock, would the sound difference be very big (Im using some very nice old speakers that can probably do about 120watts, my current receiver doesnt do nearly that and this one is 90watts per channel not to mention 7.1 over 2.0 lol)? I dont want to do any internet shopping for something this big, there a **** to return if needed and I dont want to deal with the hassle.

So would the difference in quality be big enough that I should snatch this up while I can, I dont want to pay more then 399.99$ before taxes, and the only retailers near me that sell this kind of stuff are Bestbuy, Futureshop, Walmart and Audio Video Unlimited.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, I dont have much experience with any of this stuff and I threw this thread together fairly quickly. Id be using it in a small 10x12 foot room, mostly for Video Games and Movies.

Edit: My current Realistic STA-84 only does 25 watts per channel, and it only does stereo.

Yes, it will sound better than your old receiver, although I would personally go with a 5.1 setup and save a few hundred $ since there aren't many games or films that run in 7.1 or even 6.1
