I am looking to buy a XFX 8800GT Alpha Edition and comparing the specs with other manufacturers and are slightly different. Does the brand make a significant difference to the performance? these are the ones that I've looked at so far and which one is best on performance to price?

EVGA e-GeForce 8800GT 512MB
XFX GeForce 8800GT 512MB Alpha Edition

Zotac GeForce 8800GT 512MB

Gainward GeForce Bliss 8800GT 512MB

BFG GeForce 8800GT OC 512MB

Asustek GeForce 8800GT 512MB

Well depending where you shop, prices can be all over the place, especially with the 8800GT.

First, when it comes to looking at aftermarket GPU, I first check ou their warrenty.

eVGA, IMO has a good warrenty (lifetime, but other brands offer it as well), along with its step up program.

My second choice would be XFX.

Getting a different brand doesnt offer a difference amongst performance, unless thay are pre overclocked.

If you are just going for a regular aftrmarket GPU (not pre OCed) Id go for eVGA, then XFX, then BFG..

But this also comes down to prices, if you see an XFX noticably cheaper than the eVGA, then I would opt for the XFX.

Aftermarket GPU, is a videocard which has brand name on it, like eVGA, XFX, BFG, etc.

OCed means overclocked.

the XFX 8800GT that came out says it has been factory overclocked to 625MHz? would there be significant difference to performance with the extra 25MHz? Sorry about the power supply thing, i got confused with watts and volts. lol hopefully the 600W will work.

I tweak my connection, also I am on a wireless provider which supports high bandwidth.

Well XFX also has a 650 and 675Mhz version of the GT.You will definitely get a real solid performance boost with that 675Mhz one when compared to a 8800GT on stock.

Some people were able to OC that much, but I wouldnt risk it, if you are new to overclocking, I suggest reading articles and guides about OCing your videocard. Overclocking viods your warrenty.
