i just read on ign that there is a possibility that direct x 10 is coming to Windows XP. I don't know if this is true but that will be awesome:D.

I doubt microsoft would be stupid enough to bring dx10 to xp dx10 is the only reason a person would want to buy vista that over priced unoptimized piece of trash. Not necessarily, DX10 is the only reason for a gamer to buy Vista, other people, home users and businesses aren't gonna care much for it and might still need some Vista features not available in XP. But you have to remember that Microsoft is spending thousands if not millions of dollars on their Games for Windows campaign, and a lot of gamers aren't gonna buy Vista because they only want DX10, so lets say 60% of gamers continue to use XP and eventually all the Games for Windows games are going to be completely DX10 with no DX9 support, so Microsoft loses that 60% of the possible sales, Games for Windows would eventually flunk and they just lost a couple of million dollars because they didn't allow so much percentage of the market to be able to play the games.

If I understand the situation correctly, then pepperman33 has it right. There will infact be a Direct X 9.0Ex (the "L" version was a code name for DX10 and the L stood for longhoorn). The new version for XP will allow the Vista only games to be played on XP boxes, but will NOT allow shader 4.0 to function. It will also not allow for any speed gains that a DX 10 game may have over a older DX 9 games. So XP users will be able to play games loke Halo 2, but not at it's maxed out settings and it may not play as smooth. From my understanding, this has always been in the works and none of the current "Vista" only games were ever intended to be Vista only. The big thing is wether or not a DX 10 title is worth even trying on a DX 9 platform if performance lag and visual limitations are to cut it down to a ghost of a title.
why dont u just buy vista?? :)xXSN1PERXx
Because Vista has more problems than I'll be able to count in a lifetime?
Meaning Pirating Vista? Yeah cause that won't get you suspended from the forums or anythingwhgresiak
why suspended? loli only say that u dont have to buy and i didnt give here links for ilegal download or someting so i dont se a reaon that i should be suspended

I got suspended for telling someone that a site someone else told him about was a pirating site and was banned discussion on these forums. 5 days for that.[QUOTE="EvoStvO"]Yeah, It's in desperate need of a service pack right nowWho knows...With all the issues Vista is having.

Microsoft wouldn't be that stupid sir. i think XP users are going to see some watered-down piece of DX10 before the end of next year. there is far too large a base of XP users right now, and Microsoft isn't going to cut them out of the DX10 action because well...who cares. there will still be a steady flow of DX9 games that are going to be released anyways. So i say, let em have vista and all the unstable crap that comes with it.
I hate to tell you all but all of Microsoft products since 3.1 have had more security faults and privacy violations than one can count in a lifetime. But to defend XP users, VISTA is a system hog and it has 100X more security faults and privacy violations (Oh oops you agreed to the EUA didnt you? Well you signed away your rights to privacy there) than Windows XP. Microsoft is clinging to the Gamer World, barely. Thats what VISTA was really about. Do you honestly think that they will give people who have XP the same ability to play games with smooth candy graphics when thats all they have to market a UNSAT piece of software. Be serious Microsoft is as bad as SONY for caring about the actual customer...
NO DX10 will not be available for XP users... Be serious.

The only people i know who have problems with Vista i wish i didn't know, they're all idiots. I've had it since it came out and barely any problems. There is no reason not to get Vista at the current time, most if not all of the driver issues have been fixed, but they were teething problems compared to the issues XP had on launch.

I'm an idiot because HL2 cinematic mod 4.0 doesn't work at all on vista?

The Mod is listed as vista compatible and it works fine. Try reading the instructions.
Ummm..no it doesn't work fine. Have you even played it? stop spreading this vista propaganda

From the creator himself (FAKEFACTORY):
"To round up the vista case...
Tested more with Vista x64 and x32.
With 2 GB RAM the game is nearly unplayable on several scenes (framerate drop down to 5 fps, where XP runs the same scene with 50+ frames)
Disabling Hires-Textures completly (just by renaming the materials folder) gives me crashfree playing even with just 1 GB RAM installed. This is strange, because this would mean, the crashes are texture-amount related. Either the Vista memory managment does some things, the source engine don't like, or the current vista chip drivers are crap.
I'm still investigating several constellations (hires-lores material, high ram low ram environment) and will keep you updated. i hope, i can figure out, what is going on with vista and CM4."
"After extracting the complete sporce-engine, building a (non legal) "ripped" version of HL2 and setting the LARGE_ADRESS_AWARE flag on all DLL's and the hl2.exe the crashes on vista are completly gone.
technical background: the datacache.dll tries to allocate ram, but fails, because the needed memblock doesn't fit into the limited 2 GB userspace. With the flag LARGE_ADRESS_AWARE it can allocate memory beyound the 2 GB limit, therefore no crashes.
BUT:
1. Its illegal to rip the engine
2. It needs a 64 bit Vista or a 32 Bit vista with modified USERVA value
3. It needs minimum 4 GB RAM.
So, currently CM4 is a now-go for VISTA users. I hope, VALVE is coming out with a updated 64 Bit engine soon.
"
" About vista: After weeks of support emails with valve i came to the conclusion: Vista is a POS. i'm sorry for all the vista-only users, but this os has serious problems. Even valve told me, vista isn't ready for source-engine (or vice versa... depends of the point of view)"

Vista isn't as terrible as milenium its still fixable people who complain about it are immature....get over it SOTE
Complaining about problems? Who'd have thought? (sarcasm)
if i remember correctly, it will be on xp but will be called DX9.0L rather than DX10pepperman33
dx 9.0L is not dx 10 its just dx 9 for dx 10 cards, so that you could still run all those games on the newest video cards
there is a group out there who is making a patch for windows that will allow dx 10 to run on xp, so that you can get halo 2 to run on xp
but in reality you should go and wait for xsos v3 by nn_step and his group to be released witch will have dx 10 without all the drm windows carries
If Vista was just one package like XP and cost £80-100 and wasn't a tool for microsoft to control PC users more then i'd buy it. However it comes in like 10 different packages and the only good one is Ultimate which costs over £300. Also things like Windows live and how they r trying to restrict pc users with crappy security puts me off.
I'll wait for Vienna instead.
Halo 2 is a POS when it comes to graphics and it doesn't use DX10 to begin with, and I've already patched it to Windows XP myself, and it runs flawlessly. If I understand the situation correctly, then pepperman33 has it right. Halo 2 not being able to run on Windows XP has nothing to do with DirectX10. Does anyone on these damn forums know a thing?DX 10 is a hook up of Windows, let´s say that for one instant DX10 is for XP... with all the monopoly that our dearest friend Bill has, he is going to allow that?...
I'm am XP user that hates Vista and the fact that the service pack is not going to be ready till 2009, but if I wanna play Crysis great I need Vista and I can't do a thing about it. I´m praying that Assassins Creed come with DX9

I don't get why Vista has such a bad rap. It came on my laptop and I haven't had a problem with it since. Besides game compatibility issues, I've had no frozen programs and other system errors in the half-year that I've owned it.
Sure it's a system hog but most of you have 2 gigs of ram anyways and when all the other Windows came out, they were system hogs as well. It's only because software advancements are really pushing the hardware limitations.
So Vista bashers should grow up; stop comforting yourselves by telling others Vista is bad because you really need to see for yourselves that Vista is a perfectly fine OS.

I already have it.
Microsoft already announced new OS in what three years from now? What does this say to you? I am not paying 200$ for OS that will be short term. XP on the other hand is already 5 or 6 years with us. The dx 10 is the only thing that can force us to go to Vista. But when I think about it, there arent many games that will support dx 10. NeoGuillotineThat so called new Windows OS probably won't be out for another 5 years... lol

Maybe...but microsoft said it's only gonna take 3 years to develope it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7

pretty much all new games will support vista...Bioshock, crysis, asassins creed, and all 2008 titles whether or not they'll support DX9 is for the developers to make
I agree, you want to game get Vista. It's awesome. Grow up people same was said about XP and now you're all humping it like it's your last hope for life support. Next windows comes out its gonna be another bash fest for a year before everyone gets it.concord9
Of course I encounter a few problems here and there, but I'm very happy with it!
And to be back on topic...
As mentioned already, the DirectX 10 for XP is only to give games which do not support DirectX9 and are based solely on DX10 to be ran - on XP.
And as far as I understand it doesn't allow the all new shader model 4.0 etc.
So see, you still have a GREAT reason to upgrade!!!
And the sad thing is half the people bashing Vista are people who haven't even used it. They're just jumping on the bash Microsoft band wagon. I'm not saying all of you like this, but quite a few are. It's annoying.
