I've been really enjoying the game lately. I just have a quick question/ suggestion to other people who play or plan to get this one.

I found that turning off all the huds and switching to the driver seat view really changed the game a lot and made it more challenging, in a good way.
It reallyimmerses you into the race when you're driving like this and it adds another dimension to rally racing.

For those of you who play it, the rally races pose a whole different challenge from that view with no hud, you need to seriously rely on your co pilot/guide and make sure you hear what they're saying to know what's up ahead. Since you don't have the track display up above, you don't know what's up ahead until you're actually there and have to make a split decision which will most probably lead to you going too fast at a turn or screwing up. The only way to avoid this is to listen to your guide, so it really poses a challenge, which is really great in my opinion because I found this game a bit easy, even on the "serious" difficulty.

Now that I'm playing the game like this, I find it's just right. Also when you're in the driver seat view, when you hit other drivers, your windshield will crack, making it harder to see, and when you splash into water you get mud on your windshield which actually blinds you for a good second until your wipers remove it.

I also found that I was able to take in more of the beauty of this game without being distracted by icons and achievements and such being displayed to me during the race, it actually made me feel like I was a rally racer, which in this type of game, is exactly what you want, you want it to be realistic and immersive for the player.

Anyways, just a suggestion. What do you guys think? Does anybody else play the game this way?

Outside view for me, I really don't like the interior camera, not because I wouldn't drive like that but it just feels limited and stupid, you don't look straight in front of you when you drive, you look to the left, to the right. If I'd use a TrackIR, then yeah, I would most likely play like that.

I always play in cockpit view for any racing/flying/whatevervehicle game, I find playing in 3rd person clunky half the time. Anyway, I tried the no HUD thing and it's alot better, I also find it easier now that I'm not distracted by all the things that were on screen.

i got the demo and started off playing in normal view but then switched to the first person view.

Normally i would stay with 3rd person just because most games dont do first person driving that well, but Dirt 2 pulls it off spectacularly!

It really does add another dimension to the game and really makes you feel tense whilst racing.

I should really pick this game up.

I play it this way aswell, makes it way more challenging as you said and gives you more of a rallying feel. Driving in Trailblazer events like this is a bit more challenging, as you dont receive any instructions.

I don't play it that way, but i might have a go to see what it's like.

On a sidenote, this game is amazing.

is it ok to play with a keyboard, or do you really need a controller of some kind (joystick, 360 pad, wheel, etc)?

I play with a keyboard and I find it fine. But it would be better with a steering wheel + pedals for sure.

I have started to use the inside camera view now on Forza 3, it does help with the imersion as long as it does it right. I drive so I find games that dont get the right view perception (i.e. you seem glued to the front window rather than getting some side vision) a bit of a problem. However I will try this as well if I get DiRT 2 as it sounds an interesting way of playing the game.

On the note of being glued to the screen, i agree with you that most driving games do that. However in Dirt 2 you can look around the cockpit, i play with a logitech controller so bind the camera controls to the right stick and you can quickly and easliy look around whilst driving :D

For me there's no better way to play a racing game than with driver's seat view, no HUD, no driving assists, and the highest difficulty unless it's flat out unfair. Anything else just tarnishes the experience.

I kinda wish that they would make another pure rally racer. None of the other event types in Dirt 2 (except for Trailblazer) really seemed as much fun. Still, I enjoyed it a lot, and it looked amazing.

The view from inside the drivers seat in Dirt 2 is too limiting. You only view a portion of the windshield while in a normal car you can see most of the windshield, the right rear mirror and the rearview mirror. just one minor gripe that I have.

I'd rather have my dashboard, thanks. Need to see what speed & what gear the car is in. The map in the top left usually doesn't get looked at, it tends to be easier if you just focus on the road and listen to the codriver.

I play the first person view mode (you can't see any part of your car) - or at least the view where you can see the hood. I'm a total n00b, so I can't play with cockpit view, and I don't like the 3rd-person mode.
