dirt 2 will take advantage of DX11, but will it look anywhere near as impressive in DX10? i have a feeling that it will really just be DX9 or DX11 in reality, allowing no DX10 cards to shine.

DX10 will always look better than DX9. Where did you get that idea from?

Wow you people have no clue what you are talking about. yo Wooooode NO thats not even close to what he is even talking about. to magiccalclick yeah Dirt 2 IS Dx11 it is Fully DX11 and that's that. Appule asks a great question. iv seen videos and have even played games where they have clamed that there is DX10 but it looks no better than DX9 to Rock solid. yeah Dx10 will look better than Dx9 and DX11 will look wayy better than DX10. To trent. again i have seen gameplay footage and even PLAYED games that are supposed to have DX10 (and do) but when you look at DX9 and Dx10 of the same game there is no difference. now to the post i have quoted Yes DX11 will look better than DX10. they are designing this game to take full advantage of DX11. The game will also probbly have DX9 and DX10 but they wont be nearly as good as DX11. yeah DX10 is pretty much dead no so no. DX10 cards will not shine. while DX10 cards like the Nvidia GTX 285 and the ATI HD 4890 are amazing they are pretty not needed anymore with DX11 out.

EDIT: i just replied to 6 posts in 1 message. its amazing

yeah, thats what i was worried about. i may or may not upgrade to Win7 (dunno yet), and if i do, i will be keeping my 8800 for quite a while longer becuase its still perfectly usable, and i dont see the need for more power. and i want to see it actually be used properly in DX10. but DX10 will probably just be ignored in favor of DX9.

i dunno what ur obsession with DX9 is. i highly doubt a DX11 game is gonna either support DX11 or DX9 and skip DX10 graphics. but anyways, vista is gonna have DX11 too, so you don't need windows 7 to get it.

I actually got a update for DX11 yesterday on my laptop.

So now it's like DX11... but my GPU only supports DX10... maybe after a driver update...

Bummer I did read somewhere that the 4000 series might be able to support somefeatures of DX11, not very many though...key word "might"

i've read somewere that by coding in DX11 you automatically make the game dx10, dx10.1 and dx9c compatible because the way the api is designed it automatically scales and it only needs very few tweaks. Good news for us, we should start to get dx11 games quicker.

dx10 cards can handle SOME of the dx11 features, this was explained by both nvidia and ati. Mostly lighting enhancements and such. However many of the best things in DX11 will not be supported... sadface.

Yes, you might, if you can write your own driver. It is not entirely the hardware, but, not company would waste money on making an updated driver to kill their new hot graphics card. You might, because maybe the hardware is still limited. But, if your hardware can truly handle it, you need to make your own driver. .

If a HD4870 could support DX11 it would have no problems running it. Compair the performence of the 4870 and the 5770...pretty much the same and the 4870 out performs it by a few frams in some games...Now if ATI could some how get a 4870/4850 to support DX11 I think those cards would outsell the 5700 series lol. So it wouldn't be a smart move on ATI's part. I'm just saying it would be cool
