It's boxed in Europe which makes sense since their internet is garbage there and there's no real push from anyone to improve it so yeah, boxed versions make sense.
The American audience? We have Steam and Amazon leading the way with downloads and then places like Direct 2 Drive pulling up the rear.
There's really no reason for us to want a company to spend more money and get less in return just so we can't take advantages of the ways that PC gamers can get games these days.
Wow,tipical ignorant american!Maybe you should talk before you experience. And you should learn to spell before calling someone ignorant. Also isn't it experience before you talk? Just saying...[QUOTE="Jaysonguy"]

I'll make a wild guess that's closer to the actual facts, PC games don't sell that great in America, so it'd be a waste to release retail but I highly doubt that's the case and I doubt there won't be retail for NA, it'd be outrageous, I'm still shocked that I found no PC version of Dirt 3 on the most popular US online shops.
Nope, retail is also sold in UK and pretty much everywhere in Europe. As it happens the Dirt 3 advert just popped up on TV XD . For the PC in the UK it's digital download only (teeny weeny subtitles at the end of the ad).
...which happens to be the way I bought it...

Which then does make you wonder why they put it on the advert. Very odd.
Cant understand why its download only in the UK as our internet is way behind most countries. Looking forward to playing this though as it looks stunning.
I am from lithuania and right now my internet provider gives me 100mbps local and 100mbps worldwide and download speeds are at 10mbps
and another provider offers 300 mbps local and 100mbps worldwide imagine that mister american
btw for the american just in case u dont know where lithuania is its in europe near russia

Can you give me link? I looked for one before release for pre-order and even now but no one has it even listed. Well known places like Amazon, Game, Play.com, Zavvi etc. Only place I found was CoolShop that were selling a European version which I've never heard of before.

You think speed somehow makes what I said not true?
"Although France is one of the best-wired countries anywhere, residents of Ablis, a small town southwest of Paris, cannot get a decent broadband connection. The speediest link available is not even fast enough to watch Youtube videos.
Analysts estimate that for as many as 30 million households in Europe, in places from the forests of Thuringia in eastern Germany to the hills of the French Massif Central, broadband connections are unavailable or so sluggish as to be deemed obsolete in a modern, digital economy."
It doesn't
So let's see, if I'm a dev releasing my game in Europe what do I do? Should I only offer it digitally and make sure that 30 million people are excluded or should I release a boxed version and hope for the best?
I'm going with plan B
Is normal Internet is better in USA, USA is rich country. So poor country use less Internet, not good. What can do ?uberspotter
That's part of it but it's also how the internet is distributed.
There's a reason why there's a pressing need for satellite internet in Europe
It's cheaper to distribute games via internet. No shipping costs, no dvd & case costs or labor costs associated with it, and less ppl having to make sure the games are getting to where they need to go. Eventually our buying options for PC games are going to be which website offers it cheaper. I'm sure the developers like the idea of digital distribution as well because it gets rid of second hand sales (excluding pirating of course). Now everyone will have to buy a brand new copy.

Amazon has it. As for Jaysonguy that can't let it go, you are partially right, at the end of the day, why should they release games in NA where PC games simply don't sell? as I said wild guess, but PC gaming is far from great in NA and they must have some numbers to back them up, because GRID wasn't popular in NA sales wise, F1 either, Dirt 1, 2 and a lot of games, so yeah investing in retail in places that actually buy their games would be the best choice digital in Europe because we almost have the best internet in the world in "most" places (not forests d'oh, you think America has 10mb connections in forests? and also invest in retail simply because it gets sold there. So, if we go by your logic, no they don't release retail in America because they are cheap and can't afford PCs and PC games, they rent console games. P.S Since PC gaming is big in Europe, retail is also big, not just digital as for satelite...no, nobody needs it, that's hardly a good option for internet.Part of the 1% in the US.. mmmm, feels good. 8)Meanwhile on planet Earth

Inconsistancy

I live way out in the woods. I am below 5 Mbps here in the US, though, it's fast enough for me. I can't imagine what having 25 Mbps+ would be like. Must be great.

It's good when websites or steam for that matter have a download limit. I have a 30mb line but mosty of the time I only get 600k a second. Anyway, DiRT 3 is getting great reviews.Meanwhile on planet Earth

Hmm, is that 100% true? Becuase I thought that almost everyone in Sweden has 100mbs connections and there is a plan for 1gbs over the next years.
I have a 32mbs connection and I was positive that this is not a big deal and that many people around the world have faster connection than me.
I guess I was wrong.
