Hi guys, i eventually got the ati radeon x1650 pro pci/e @ 512mb but it wasnt as good as what i expected. I mean it runs Guild wars like a dream but other games can be chuggy with low fps and generally the games I bought it for just arent that playable as the frames are so low.

My system spec is as following: 1 gig of ram, 135 gig hard drive, intel pentium 4 ht @ 3 ghz and 350 watt psu.

The first annoying problem i encountered has happened before but with another computer. it was on counter strike source and basically when i setup a game agaisnt bots for example it looks as though it is jumpy and the models are twitching, as though there is something in the background conflicting with the game.

I have my settings on low pretty much apart from a few on medium. I have no hdr, no anti-aliasing, no colour correction etc mainly on low settings and i get an fps of 25 but the game is quite unplayable as there are other problems to.

The weird thing is that the video test in the game (cs players will know what i mean:P) shows results with 90 fps and above which is really good....so why does the game run in an unplayable state?

Please help

is your ram ddr or ddr2? if its ddr then get another gig of ram...1 gig wont be enough as my bro's had the same specs as you...and when he first had it one gig ddr ram and all games were running not like what he expected but after he got it to 2gb it ran games like company of heroes fine...of course not on high..

i can answer the bit about bots, that's not due to your GPU but your CPU and RAM most likely. when running bots your cpu will be under heavy load due to the extra AI, its happens to me on my rig if i decide to use 20+bots and end up getting around 40-50FPS instead of 75 constant (1280x1024). so i would limit yourself to 8 bots max.

Yeah ok I will take your advice on the bots :)

I think my current ram is ddr2 but im not sure...i will upgrade to another gig. When i buy ram should I go for the cheap ones like 2 gig for £15 or should I spend a bit more on the ballistix products?

I only want 2 gig of ram-but should I get rid of the existing 1 gig of ram in my computer and just stick in the new products so i might get better peformance?

Thanks guys for the help :)

You could take it back, and get a 7600gt if you can. Its a great card.

I'll pass on that considering the problem probably isnt the card more so to do with system resources. a ram upgrade is gna be necessary for my sort of games

I've only got an athlon 3000+ (socket 754), 1.5gb ddr1 ram, and a 7600gt 512mb (ddr2), and i dont have any real problems with my setup. Yours isn't too much different.

Yeah I understand where you are coming from but my problem isnt the graphics card because its powerful enough to run crysis on medium with smooth fps. The problem is something to do with system resources like not having enough ram to run graphic intensive games. It could even be my psu, but i doubt that.

It could be the ram. I'll admit i could use an extra 512mb (up to 2gb) so when levels start in games, there won't be any lag.

Guys I solved the problem...sorry to say it was as easy as going online with css and even on a server with 30 players and constant action my computer dealt with it with smooth frames from 30-100.

It seems all is fine online-no jitter and no frame problems. So why is offline completely different?

Thanks for the advice guys-problem sorted :)

bots add heavy cpu usage, that renders a p4 useful when its overloaded, even my cpu has some lower fps with bots.

no crysis would eat that card alive. That is unless you're running it on 800x600, but even then the performance would be terrible with a p4 and 1gb ram.
