HANDS-ON

I think it will be a solid game. Nothing spectacular. Elann2008yeah me too. Just a 7/10, but it's Duke....so Day 1 for me.... been waiting for 12 years...
I'm like you guys - I expect perhaps 7.5 or 8/10 at best, but I also know that I'm happy to finally have a new Duke Nukem game and will find a way to enjoy it no matter what. As long as they include some classic one-liners, plenty interactivity, and badass weaponry and levels, I'm all for it.
Well it'll probably get a 10 for humour. There is a part where you can pick up a turd from the toilet and he says "what the hell am I supposed to do with this?" :Dcouly
LOL!

Just some good, fun gameplay and some great Duke humour. Am I the only one who thinks that the game looks really good graphically. I mean how does the first picture (the one with the cyclops and the fists) in that article not look good? It certainly looks great to me.
Most of the hands on previews say basically the same thing...it's fun...it's funny...but it also shows it's age and many of it's gameplay features are like relics today.Renevent42
Well, today's gameplay features suck, so that statement probably means it is innovative. It probably doesn't have the RPG features of today where you upgrade your guns, armor, or player stats. It shouldn't have anything like that. It's a shooter for christ sake.
Nah, all hands-on say basically the same thing if you sum it up:
But never forget that these are opinions. Now i'll add my opinion on what i researched since the PAX thing.
I'll love this game, but most gaming sites are going to either give it a 7.5, and a 8. Highly doubt it goes above a 8.

I think they are more referring to things like better effects, physics, animations, character models, destructibility, ect ect. All of these things are great in my opinion. With that said there's nothing wrong with a straight forward ass kicking game either. I quite enjoyed playing Serious Sam HD recently and one of my favorite recent FPS is the new(ish) Wolfenstein.I think it will be an solid old school fps, with decent graphics. Thats all. People who think that becoue the game was in development for so long it should be something revolutionary...thats just wrong. Sure Blizz takes time with their games, but its a completely different situation with DNF.
Hey at least its better off then Diablo 3 right now which is now in limbo due to Activision wanting to continue to milk WoW for all its got. Yes Activision can pull strings on the big company Blizzard.StrathdorOff topic but Diablo 3 is not in limbo you know....

Yes Activision can pull strings on the big company Blizzard.StrathdorJust so you know Blizzard has 4 departements now... each departement takes care of 1 game, obviously they trade some modeler/animator/sound designer, etc, but all 4 projects are doing juuuuuuuuuuuussst fine :D and there's no way that Diablo 3 would be in a limbo cause of WoW
Wait, so they basicly say this is likean FPS of old? No crappy cutscenes, or ironsights?
Sign me up :P
Something must be wrong with me when those negative comments basicly makes me want it more, but then again, outside BF:BC2, the STALKER games, and killing floor no single FPS gave me a very good impression -.-
This one might :P
It will flop. Badly. Expect a 5. Maybe a 5.5 because apparently everyone thinks it's the best game evur!
The only salving grace is the humor, which for me is just infantile, stupid, forced and well... just not funny.
Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine...Renevent42This. Game might flop with reviewers..... but Boy O Boy it's gonna sell like hot cakes... And REAL MEN will LOVE IT !!!
I have no doubt in my mind that I'm going to enjoy it. Prey was another game considered to be average by many, but in my eyes it was one of the greatest first person shooters I've ever played. In fact, most shooters that are considered to be average by others, is what I consider great. Games like Wolfenstein, Quake 4, Doom 3, and Prey may not have super inflated scores like Call of Duty or Halo, but they sure as hell are way more fun and creative. I have better things to do than listen to "professional" critics give their somewhat worthless opinion on a game that isn't even out yet. I'll make my own conclusions when the time comes.
Prey was awesome....and had great ideas (although made me dizzy in parts). Never understood why it got low scores....I have no doubt in my mind that I'm going to enjoy it. I think the game looks terrible, both visually and gameplay. Just doesn't look very good at all. millerlight89Same here. I'm playing Legendary right now, and I get the feeling that this is pretty much exactly what DNF is going to be like (read: horrendous). Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

Legendary is broken.

Legendary is broken. Heh, yeah, Legendary is pretty terrible. But this game is basically what I see DNF being reduced to: clunky controls, sloppy shooting mechanics, annoying enemies, frustratingly limited carrying capacity, total linearity, heavily scripted, so on and so forth. That's how it looked in the PAX demo anyway, at least to me.

Most previews criticized the lack of linearity (which is present in modern games and they say duke ignores it), along with big scripted moments.
That preview talked very little about what interests me about this game.
DNF's appeal (for me):
-It isn't a FPS about space soldiers or modern special forces.
-It doesn't take itself seriously.
-It's Duke.
I'd be very surprised if it gets below an average review of 7.5. It don't think Gearbox would have picked up DNF if it was a horrible game. Unless they were looking for some quick cash, but they don't seem like the type that would do that.

On the contrary, my opinion is that the game looks to be anything but old-school. Player movement is sluggish, you can only carry two guns at a time, and your health regenerates. All that's fine for a newer franchise or some semi-serious game, but not for Duke, at least in my opinion.
And of course, I could be wrong. I'm trying really hard not to form an opinion of the game before I play it, but the previews haven't exactly thrilled me. But who knows, maybe the way Gearbox implements all of these mechanics will work out in a way that doesn't bog down the game (although the preview linked in the OP makes it sound like that's exactly what's going on). But meh, we'll see.
I don't think that theres a market for DNF. I mean, did his disappearance create anything but a few internet memes? PC gaming and gaming in general has thrived without Duke. And remember that all this hype is based on one game Duke 3D, which may have been good at the time but then again there wasn't as much satration in the FPS market as there is now. (Well, theres more variation than just DOOM and Quake clones.)

Hahahahah, that made me laugh.
Can we please quote that when it sells like Hot Cakes....?
I will be happy with DNF. From what ive seen its got the same Balls Of Steel it had 12 years ago alont wth the witty humour. I made loads of levels for Duke Nukem 3D with its map editior, and i miss those kinda games.
I didn't like the recent COD, simply because it tells you where and what to do. Its boring, I want to go where I want and do what I want in my own Time :)
Can't wait for this game on PC ;) Welcome home Duke!
What I mean is that people won't buy it for the reason the its Dukem Nukem in the same that people buy Call of Duty or Halo. Besides, You don't what your going into wen you get DNF. For example, when you get Halo: Reach you know what you will get. Players of the original are expecting a sequel that will uphold the twelve year old original's gameplay, while it will be a game with Duke and some throwbacks to the original and some central theme connecting them. And don't get me started on how they channged Duke for D3d...
