Ok... I dont know a whole lot about this, but ive done a bit of research, and heres what I know... I have a sony home theatre that i recently bought, and im trying to get the 360 to work on it. Ive heard you need an "optical cable" which i bought... i plug it in on my 360, then i have to plug it in on a "receiver" which i dont know what a receiver is... is a receiver the same thing as your home theatre?

And do all home theatres have an optical imput? I cant find one... so im wondering if I bought the wrong one.

If its a home theatre in a box then odds are it does not have a optical plug in. A receiver is the amp, or what you plug all your speakers into. However most HTIB are just a dvd player and mediocre receiver so...

You won't be able to get true surround sound for games unless the unit itself has an Optical input. Best thing you'll probably be able to get is just 2 channel stereo via the red/white rca plugs. Sorry man.

The most you can receive with that HTIB is dolby prologic II suround sound (which isn't that bad, btw). Sorry to break the bad news. That HTIB does not have an optical input for the 360. You will have to plug the two red and white rca jacks into the receiver instead. No Dolby Digital :(

Okay, so you are using component (red green and blue) on your tv, which is right. Then you want the audio to your theater so connecting the red and white cables to it is correct (but you don't need to use the yellow sd cable anymore, leave it hanging out).

I have to ask, did you plug it into an input on the theater, or an output? And then set the theater to that input?

Im not quite sure what you mean. I plugged up the component cables too the tv, and i plug up the red and white on red and white inputs on the theatre.

make sure the "receiver" is set to the proper input. It should be called something like aux or TV
