i use the original Microsoft Sidewinder mouse, and find it pretty much impossible now to game with other mice. It's extremely comfortable and VERY functional. Highly reccommended. And no, there's nothing wrong with a regular mouse and keyboard, but keep in mind that they're not designed with gaming in mind, and thus are definitely not as good when it comes to gaming. My old Gateway keyboard and mouse worked GREAT until i got the Sidewinder, and then everything changed.

A gaming mouse is all that's needed really. The only reason I would get a gaming keyboard is because it lights up, and that is only some that do that.

A gaming mouse is a necessity. The keyboard doesn't matter much.

I use a Logitech G15 first gen keyboard. This thing is great. The best part of it is the back lit keys.

Otherwise looking to replace my Logitech Media Click Mouse with a gaming mouse soon, this one is starting to show its age.

They're worth it, although less for the 'gaming' classification and more for the build quality.

I don't use a gaming keyboard, but I do have a Logitech G5, which is easily the best mouse I've ever used. It could stand to have a forward button beside the back thumb button, but it's got a great shape, decent weight (with the weights added), and tracks across large screens beautifully.

I have the Razer Lycosa keyboard... i like it because you can just program the current keys, without all the extra keys like the tarantulas.

1st Gen Logitech G15/Razer Deathadder. I love them both, although I must say the LCD screen on the G15 is rather useless. Backlighted keys are always nice though.

The higher dpi ratings are less important than the larger size, better shape, and build quality, but I love my MX518. As for a keyboard I use a Saitek Eclipse just because it lights up and matches my case/monitor.

I have a standard keyboard a neighbour once gave to me for free and a bal mouse that I think originally came with an office 97 package my dad once bought. I really can't imagine the added value of a gaming keyboard but I have been looking to replace the mouse with a good gaming mouse. However, the thing still works great and I get to tell myself that I would be even better at playing fps's if only I had a gaming mouse.. ;)

I have a Razer DeathAdder Mouse and a Ideazon MERC Keyboard. In hindsight I would have went for a different keyboard, but I couldn't live without this mouse. It fits my hand so well and is way better than the half-broken mouse I was using before. I strongly suggest a gaming mouse, but the keyboard isn't necessary unless the one you are currently using has a ghosting problem. Ergo, only a few keys can be held down before the keyboard stops responding to further input.

I have a Razer Diamondback mouse. Honestly, I don't think it was worth the price. It feels and acts pretty much the same as any other mouse, but with a few more buttons. A friend gave me a G15 keyboard, but I hated the thing as its extra marco buttons were all configured in such a way as to make it completely useless for a leftie like me.

The two gaming perihperals that I do have and can't do without are my TrackIR headtracker and my trusty old MS Sidewider 2 FFB joystick.

My dad uses footpads : http://gamingmouse.com/weapon.php?pid=31 And a mouse with 3 joysticks on it: http://www.sandiotech.com/sandio_product.php He only has one arm and he can almost keep up with me in L4D. He uses the footpads for wasd and the mouse for pretty much everything else.

I'm upgrading to a Razer mouse tomorrow and I might go ahead and get a new headset too. I'm not sure about the headset though; not a whole lot of people actually use voice chat in games these days.

If you're referring to the Barracuda Headphones, I'd advise against them. The rear drivers are complete crap and nifty at best, but I guess they do provide a bit of spacial awareness, as you can track enemies who are on the other side of a wall. The mic in it is insensitive and you need to scream to be heard, so a Zalman clip-on mic is pretty much required. Sound quality is good enough, but you'd likely expect more for what you pay.

im guessing you have big hands for the sidewinder to be comfortable :) i have a gaming keyboard (a microsoft reclusa (powered by razer)) and i love it because of the jog dials and extra macro-able keys. i also have an a4-tech x7 gaming mouse (again, i need the macroable keys). i, too, cant go back to a normal mouse now. im looking into buying a mouse with buttons for my now-idle pinky finger :P

I just use a regular old mx518 mouse and some cheap logitech keyboard. The only keyboard I could justify switching to is the old G15... and as far as mice go I'm pretty content with this mouse. Corded means no frustration, good control and feel, on the fly sensitivity switching and a few extra buttons. I'm sure there are better mice... but its just not worth the cost/usefulness unless I get a lot more money =P.

I got the Wireless G7 and the Wired G9. The G7 feels wonderful and it's so much more smooth and precise than my old regular Logitech Wireless mouse, the only problem is it disconnects every once in a while which is a total pain in the ass. So I picked up the G9 for cheap, to use as a back up, only problem is I hate wired mouses. The wires always get caught on my speakers or something, so I just use it as a back up. Got the G7 for 58 bucks and the G9 for 54 bucks and between the 2, it's great. lol So much better than my old Cordless click plus mouse, although I'm still using the keyboard that came with it, great keyboard.

I use the Razor Death Adder mouse and the Razor Tarantula keyboard. I'm going to probably buy a Lycosa keyboard, however, because I don't really like the Tarantula...It's a nice keyboard, but it doesn't really suit my needs.
