The 7900gs series can last long, if you do a volt mod and overclock it. The 7900gtx will last you a long time, especialy when you overclock it.

Although, I would just save up and wait for the HD 2600xt or something.

dont this tread question depend on what game you play more then what you got as hardware ? you can play solitare and lemmings, tetris and minesweeper til your computer die of old age and your mobo's battery is out sometime in the year2017. but if you planing to run newer games like Flight simulator Xand Dirt etc etc on Ultra settings, thats max on those games, your graphics are allredy down mark.

Exactly, but ya it will not last you five years and dx10 games are coming out next year and chances are you will want to play them. Just wait until the new nvidia and ati cards come out and then the 8800gtx and 8800gs will have a price drop.

Alienwares are overpriced (by atleast $500-$1000), but anyways...

Thats a good card (both of them). Im not sure they will max games out for more than another year or so (although it will last long, just not on max). Reason why is because the new DirectX 10 (aka the next generation of video cards) just started comming out, and games will start be using DX10 graphics for max settings, and eventually only DX10 visuals within the next 2-3 years. The 7XXX series of video cards only run DX9, although really well. So the card's will probibly last about a year running on max settings before the new DX10 games will be out.

The 8XXX series of video cards from Nvidia can run both DX9 and DX10. The 8800 GS is a very good card thats both affordable and will last litterally, several years because it uses the new DX10 technology. Its worth around $270 retail.
