Hey guys i was wondering what i should do i already own a 260GTX OCX and was thinking about getting another and SLI'ng them as with my set up and just 1 260gtx i get 17845 in 3dmark06, or whether i should upgrade to a higher card say a 295gtx but it would only be a single card if i bought that. what would you guys do?? (im getting an sli motherboard anyway as i currently dont have one)

thanks in advance

I'd personally pick another GTX260. I'm going to actually get one soon hopefully, but it's really hard to find BFG 260 OC2s.

I would buy a second 260GTX, the prices are coming down and that will EASILY last you the next few years with no worries. We as PC gamers are luckily seeing technology race ahead of what the game developers can give us currently. Save your sheckles:)

*Oh, and as a side note, please stop using Crysis/Crysis Warhead as a benchmark people. It was terribly coded to begin with and won't tell you diddly-squat about your rig's true performance.

That's what i'm saying then there's the chance of microstuttering, no thanks. Sometimes they want it to play Crysis and then after installing it see that it makes no difference

Micro-stuttering is on visible to sensitive people. For instance I can not see it, but my friend can on my rig. It all depends on the person.

Not every game supports SLI so if you want to be completely sure that you will gain performance in every game you should get a newer card.

But if you have a 260 I'd say wait for the next nvidia directx11 card, it should be out some time in March according to rumors from arstechnica. Getting a gtx295 now is tempting but if you want to be well covered for the future games, get a dx11 card.

Also the ATI dx11 cards are out but I try to stay away from that brand, they make awesome hardware but horrible drivers.

I am sick of seeing people say March, NO ONE KNOWS! Anyways, a gtx295 would be a stupid upgrade. As it acts just like SLI.

Yea they are poorly coded games, not as bad as GTA 4, but they are coded poorly. Warhead is a little better.

Of course they will. Its common sense. When nvidia comes out with a new series of cards (300 series) they need to compete with ATIs new 5000 series cards accutally the performence will prolly be alittle better but at a more expensive price like NVidia cards always are.

You, me, or anyone does not know this. Do you remember ATI 2k series? It could happen to Nvidia. I love how Gamespot is full of psychics.

True but at the same time i would wait, doesn't make sense to me not to wait for the competition, at the worst it will bring prices down on the HD 5K series.

3 months is nothing. There are no dx11 games out right now and people are playing today's games just fine on their 3850's and 260gtx's. ATI only has a small part of the market right now because most of the market isn't even thinking about upgrading. I'm sure most of those who bought a 5870 because it was the fastest card on the market will end up buying a nvidia card for the exact same reason.

I didn't mention DX11. And I won't be getting a GTX 300 series card unless it turns out faster than (2) 5850s in Crossfire :o I was just saying that I don't know why people let video cards control them. If you're interested buying now, I say buy now. (and this is all an opinion; I don't think anyone can be right)

Yeah it's an opinion and mine turns out to be the exact opposite. Right now I'm sitting on a 9400gt, pretty much useless for gaming, which is fine because I don't think anything is worth playing right now anyway. I offloaded my gtx 285 SLI setup a few months ago while they were still worth something. Now I'm waiting for price wars between ati and nvidia and will pickup whatever is best. And assuming Nvidia's track record over the last 5-6 years I'm betting I'll end up with a Nvidia card.

ATI only has a small part of the market right now because most of the market isn't even thinking about upgrading. I'm sure most of those who bought a 5870 because it was the fastest card on the market will end up buying a nvidia card for the exact same reason.TheDuffman26

Once again you do not know this. i am getting tired of trying to tell you guys that you aren't Psychic.

It was terribly coded to begin with and won't tell you diddly-squat about your rig's true performance.

millerlight89

crysis and warhead was not by any means terribly coded..my 3850 runs it on high at around 25 fps at 1440x900 so..yeah.its playable for me..so imo no its not terribly coded

Yea they are poorly coded games, not as bad as GTA 4, but they are coded poorly. Warhead is a little better.

No, Crysis was not by any means poorly coded. Actually for what the game offered in terms of graphics it was coded superbly. I had no problems running it on my mid-range card back then on medium-high. And don't forget that Crysis still looks far better than any other game out there. And it's more than 2 years old now!

Research Micro stuttering for dual gpu solutions. Apparently if you have a knack for acknowledging performance lose, then you will be extremely peeved at some of these cards and set ups in SLI. It can ruin your entire experience. Watch youtube videos too if you want to get an idea of what it looks like.

Single>Dual GPUS. Plus usually SLI has a problem of where you get higher maximum frame rates, but dip into lower minimum frame rates. Single GPUs are usually more stable in their frame rate.

i have researched microstuttering and there is a chance i wont get it aswell, but im not one to wait around for 300 series i did that with the 9000 series and it wasnt worth it tbh. i need a performance boost for how i play and that woud mean a 275, 285,295 the 275 wouldnt offer too much more fps, and 285 295 would cost me more than 1 260. i cant really do anything else except get a 285 but its a lot for what it is

yes i think that too,it just looks amazing and my 3850 runs it really well so..considering people have $200-$500+ graphics cards just to run that game on very high and my $60 card can run it on high...well its their money i guess but im happy with what crytek did
