Il explain : modem = Internet signal receiver > Router = Spliter > Ps3 (note Ps3 doesn't go higher then Wifi G is 50-54mb/s Which is up to 4x Slower Then Ethernet 100mb/s Cable :it depend the range usally it like if you got a 20Mb/s connection : it mostlikely You'r Ps3 Via Wifi G will only see 8Mb/s to 15Mb/s which is a Lost of speed :

So you basically must put a Ethernet cable for the Best Experience since it support Gigabyte Ethernet = 1Gb/s instaed of 100mb/s (Typical Ethernet) so there no signal loss even at Very Long Distance But in future we will get Wifi Dual N-Draft and more powerfull who will replace the need of wire at the cost of some Eletromagnetic Wave Running trough the house but they ain't dangerous

so Basically from what i know if there no Modem plugged basically there no net going unless you'r net is coming from a 3G/4G / House next to you wifi Signal Typically G tough But The Wifi Work Still good : Iv at few occasion in MAG with it : so i plugged the Ethernet Cable solved it but that wire is in the way :P

yup. yes you do. unless you got one of those routers with an inbuilt modem. the router's job is just to split the internet connection among all the devices!

cheers! =)

Where do you live where the average cable connection is 100mbps? I've yet to find a service (at least in my area) that offers more than 50mbps which is still less than G's transmission rate of 54mpbs. And even then I doubt OP has such a fast connection.

The vast majority of people do not have internet connections fast enough to warrant a router any faster than G simply for internet usage and connecting via ethernet cable shouldn't make any difference. Now if you're planning on doing some media streaming or network data storage then by all means opt for an N router or higher.

Anyway, OP, if you don't connect a modem to your router then nothing on your network will have internet access, although the devices will have local network access.

I can tell you, right now, if you don't live in China, Japan, Korea or Singapore, you DON'T get 100mbps internet. (Unless a ISP or some business) Inwhich case, thats the ethernet speed between your PC and your router, not the speed between your modem and ISP.
