I just bought a monitor : Hanns-G HZ281HPB 27.5'' 3ms Full HD 1080P HDMI WideScreen LCD Monitor 400cd/m2 X-Contrast 15,000:1(800:1)Built-in Speakers. Do I also need to buy an hdmi cable? i believe this monitor which is coming in the mail does not have one, only a hdmi to dvi cable (whatever that means).

I am a newbie and don't know what an hdmi cable is, but I read somewhere that it is better than a hdmi to dvi cable for the monitor. is this true? or should i just stick to what the monitor comes with? (actually i think it comes with several cables--which one should I use once it arrives? I am only using the monitor with my desktop)

here is url for the monitor

also, i need more disk space but don't want to put a new harddrive in my comp bc I already have two 1 terabyte harddrives. is there a hardrive that is permanently attached to the computer from the outside, which is different from an external harddrive? i thought i heard about that somewhere. if so, can you give me a link to a good not expensive 1 terrabyte one please? is it easy to plug in or do i have to go inside my computer to set up? (again i'm a newbie and don't want to open the computer) thanks

That monitor has DVI input, so if you have a DVi cable, just use it. Basically, the only difference between DVI and HDMI is that HDMI carries sound, which is neither here nor there when you're connecting a computer monitor.

Regarding the hard drive question;

Firstly, I think you're thinking of a NAS (Network Attacked Storage-Device) which is essentially an external hard drive with more features. I don't really think you would be needing one of those, as they do cost quite a bit more than a basic external HDD, and will do the same thing if you're not looking for the extra features.

Secondly, if you're running of space when you have 2TB, you may want to look at cleaning up old/unused files.

Finally, unless you PC has USB3, you would be better off adding an additional internal drive to your PC, as you will get much better transfer speeds over SATA versus USB2.

with two harddrives already i'm not sure if my comp case has any more room to fit another, plus i have no idea how to add an internal harddrive! i really thought someone told me there was a kind of harddrive that could be easily attached to the computer without opening it, but not like a typical external drive. perhaps i got it wrong

It wouldn't make a big difference, or any at all. Although some digital content will not play over VGA. Best to switch out for DVI/HDMI.

Maybe you are thinking of an external HDD that has an eSATA port?

Transfer speeds will be much higher than using USB 2.0.

It can sometimes make a noticeable difference, especially when looking at text. My LCD monitor looks blurry with VGA.
