Do i need to consider a new HDD?

My first HDD, that came with the compter a few years back died, so i got the same one again for a replacement. Thinking about getting a new one because the load times and boot times on this laptop are getting so bad. I don't have money to get myself a new laptop, so i'm trying to keep this one alive for as long as possible. But for future reference what would be a good one for my laptop? I have a 2014 Asus Republic of gamers laptop..

They are both 5400RPM drives so it won't improve your load and boot times from switching,

You have 3 upgrade options for laptop storage:

1. SSHD = 2TB high capacity and faster than what you have but not close to a SSD at $90
2. 500GB SSD = Same price as a 2TB SSHD but will be drastically better for boot and load times BUT will give you less storage than what you have already $90
3. 1TB SSD = Would give you the same amount of storage as you have but will be drastically faster BUT will cost 2x the price of a 2TB SSHD at $170-200

I would recommend going with a 1TB SSD as you can always re-use it in future builds and the performance is huge, I own a SSHD and its a jump in performance over my HDD but not close to my SSD.

Hmmm, any decent ones on newegg then? Will it fit into my laptop? SSDs seem kinda pricey :/ my budget is around 60-85$ SSHD seem better tbh.

@thingta42: if that's a gaming laptop you should have enough space to fit both SSD 120Gb + for OS and programs and another HDD for storage / games.

Also depends on how much money you've got and how many games installed you play at once you can install a whole 500Gb-1Tb SSD without HDD.

Since you've got a 85$ budget you can get a 44$ 1Tb 7200rpm HDD from WD Blue and 30$ 120Gb SSD from Kingston (from a quick search on pcpartpicker)

Or a 500Gb SSD (Patriot or Mushkin)

I'd say go for an SSD if you've the budget, anything Western Digital is what i usually look at
