hell yeah youll notice a difference.  less time loading maps etc.  plus 2 gigs will help you out with future titles...especially crysis and bio shock.  think of it this way...2 gigs is the new 1 gig in the gaming world.  so basically,   it is only unecessary if you dont plan on playing newer games...your call.

it looks to be the upcoming standard in games, especially the newer ones. it doesn't hurt to have 2 gigs in preparation for that.

If you're getting a new PC, 2 GB is the way to go. For upgrading an existing system...it depends on what you want to do with it. 1 GB is still good enough for most games (and XP).

Well if your using Vista, absolutely. Vista itself uses ~700MB of memory just on startup with no bloatware installed other than what comes with an OEM version of Vista.. You can get away with 1gb with XP but considering RAM prices, 2GB is definetely worth the performance increase.

Depends on what software you run. Check the task manager performance tab after a day of use and look for the peak memory use in the bottom left. If it's higher then physical memory you use the swap-file a lot which slows things down. But, like's been said, it will definately help you in the (near)future.

Depends on what type of RAM it is though. If its DDR, then upgrading to 2 gigs might not be worth it since those are starting to phase out for the "now standard"(I guess) DDR2.

Definately something to think about if youre someone who upgrades the parts in your rig ;)

Most definitely. Hell, I'm going to upgrade to 4 gigs here soon. More RAM always is better.

2 Gigs really isn't all that necessary. 1GB will get you where you're going. If you look at the Gamespot hardware guides there really isn't much of a difference between using 1 gig and 2 gigs in terms of performance gain. In Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (a game with some of the highest graphics requirements available) the game got the same number of frames per second with both 1 and 2 Gigs. You can look for yourself I suppose. http://www.gamespot.com/features/6147127/p-7.html

You will get faster load times but that's all I really see for it.  With the newest games I'd say it could be worth it to buy up to 1.5 gigs. No one ever mentions that option though...

One thing though: I haven't experienced Window's Vista. I'd be willing to recommend 2 gigs for that since the operating system has a focus on graphics and visual effects. But if you're not upgrading soon you'll be fine without it.

2 gigs would be a very good investment if you want to play future games.

I am also planning on upgrading to Vista but thats probably when Crysis comes out. I just built a new rig btw except i only got 1gig of ram for it because im not sure if 2gigs is really needed.

Black, you've got an x1300? You can force feed your computer as much RAM as you want, it's not going to fix that graphics card bottle neck. Spend your money wisely.

As for you kato, 2GB looks like the way to go since you're going for the OS and Crysis. You could just hold off on buying the RAM until the game comes out. Though us mortals don't really know what the recommended RAM for Crysis is going to be.

you will notice a lot more now then yo would have last year. Infact 4gb will start being nice for games if youre maxing them out. The more intensive the graphics, the more the RAM and HDD have to load. Precaching alot of textures and so on. For instance Gothic 3 or Cell Factor demo, they both make my 2gb chug. So 2gb, will be more neccesary this year and I would look into it. FEAR, Quake, any MMO, Vegas, GRAW, etc etc, they all use 2gb.
